Salary:
£15,000 per annum(London Living Wage pro-rata)


Hours of work:24 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks), usually a 6-hour working day, 4 days per week. Due to the nature of the role, flexibility to attend evening and weekend events will be required. Regular overtime will be available.


Role Purpose
Southwark Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years.

Now it stands on the vibrant and exciting regenerated south bank of the Thames surrounded by cultural venues such as Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe and Borough Market, as well as the offices of major companies, schools and diverse residential communities.

Overview


The Southwark Cathedral shop sells high-quality books, gifts, souvenirs, religious goods and candles, and children's books to support our varied programme of visitor engagement and art events.

The retail sales assistant will join our passionate and dedicated team. Your role is key to ensuring the Cathedral delivers professional, welcoming and engaging customer service.

You will also drive sales by using exceptional selling skills and help the Cathedral achieve its sales targets across a breadth of commercial activities.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Day to day operation of the shop including unpacking deliveries, pricing, and merchandising;
  • Answering general enquiries from visitors and customers;
  • Ensuring customer service standards are met to maximize sales;
  • Maintaining accurate sales records through proper use of the EPOS system and financial procedures;
  • Assist in cleaning and general housekeeping;
  • Security awareness for stock and staff safety;
  • Assisting all staff to maintain high standards with respect to security, customer service and sales skills;
  • Dealing with special customer orders and requests;
  • Manual handling;
  • Helping with special events and latenight openings;
  • Assist with the fulfilment of online orders as required;
  • Responsible for the shop and opening and closing the till and credit card reconciliation.

Terms and Conditions

Working Hours


The working hours shall be 24 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks), usually a 6-hour working day, 4 days per week.

Due to the nature of the role, flexibility to attend evening and weekend events will be required. Regular overtime will be available and time off in lieu will be awarded in line with Southwark Cathedral's policy.


Annual Leave


27.5 days per annum including statutory bank holidays and an additional day during the Christmas period, with an additional 4 days after 10 years service.


Probation

Season ticket loan


Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.


Pension


The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund.

The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.


Working Expenses
Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.


Termination of Employment
During the six-month probationary period one week's notice is required on either side. Thereafter you will be required to give one month's notice should
