Description
We are seeking to recruit a Support Worker to work at Eaton Barn Horticulture Project in Leominster.


Eaton Barn is a horticultural project and retail space where participants grow and sell herbs, flowers, plants, fruit, and vegetables, and learn horticultural skills, green woodworking, and craft skills.

We aim to enable our participants to gain new skills, and to benefit from a therapeutic outdoor environment.

Eaton Barn Community Garden is part of ECHO, a charity working with people with learning and physical disabilities and people with mental health issues in Herefordshire.

ECHO runs 28 different activities each week in community settings across Herefordshire. We are the largest provider of day opportunities for disabled people in Herefordshire.

At Eaton Barn, participants are encouraged to:

  • Learn practical horticultural skills, how individual plants grow and how to care for each plant from sowing the seed to harvesting the final product
  • Learn how to work safely in a horticultural environment
  • Work on a variety of indoor and outdoor seasonal activities
  • Be a team member in a work based setting
  • Learn how to engage with the public and how to present the produce and craft items we produce in our retail space
  • Learn to take care of their environment and how to create individual environments to encourage a diverse range of wildlife to our project


The post would suit someone with experience of working with people with learning disabilities in a work-based setting, or a keen gardener/ horticulturalist with great people skills who has a passion for sharing their knowledge and enabling and including people with disabilities.


You will be involved in the planning and delivery of sessions to ensure that a range of valued activities are provided for our participants, this would include activities and events at our centre and in the local community.

The role would involve providing practical support to our participants to ensure they are welcomed, feel safe and valued. You will help to develop their skills and try new activities to build confidence. You may need to give assistance with personal care or medication.

You will be involved in keeping good records, communicating effectively, handling money, and sharing information as appropriate, whilst maintaining confidentiality and data protection requirements in line with ECHO policies.

The Support Worker role at Eaton Barn, Leominster, will be
4 days per week from 8.45am to 4.15pm.

Working days will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays with some flexibility required at times to cover other staff absence.

Additional hours will occasionally also be available to cover staff leave; these hours may be taken as overtime or as TOIL (Time Off In Lieu).
