Description

The primary role will be to provide direct clinical input to young people years and families with ND disorders and to support the other members of the ND team in relation to clinical management of complex cases.


The ND team although independent works closely with the generic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Paediatrics Team.

The CAMHS team is provided by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and is part of a Clinical Network with CAMH Services in Cardiff and Vale and Swansea, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot.

It also manages the Tier 4 Young Persons Regional Inpatient Unit and Tier 4 Eating disorders Service based in Bridgend seeing a wider population of 2.3 million and All Wales Forensic Adolescent Consultation Team (FACTS).

Services are provided for all children up to their 18thbirthday.


This is an opportunity to work with dynamic and innovative colleagues who are committed to developing and delivering clinically excellent services for the population of Cwm Taf Morgannwg.


  • Provide clinical expertise to the Neurodevelopmental Service in particular with cases of complexity in the diagnosis and treatment of Neurodevelopmental Disorder.
  • Participate in the development of the service model, supporting colleagues in the establishment of a Multi-Disciplinary Service including Pathway Development.
  • Provide liaison work at all levels with other health staff and community agencies working with children, adolescents and their families.
  • Provide clinical care located where necessary for instance clinics based in Special Schools and other community locations.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Education, Local Authority and 3rdSector in the delivery of services for Children and Young People with ND Disorders.
  • Participate in appropriate assessment tools (e.g. ADOS, 3Di) as dictated by the requirements of the service.
  • Work with the team to ensure robust outcome measures.
  • Work with the team to ensure excellent performance reporting.
  • All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisations regarding supervision.
  • Work closely with all agencies involved in child care and observe the local safeguarding procedures.

  • The post holder is ultimately accountable to the medical director but works closely with support and supervision form the Community Paediatric Lead for CYP ( Assistant Clinical Director CYP)
  • Will be expected to comply with the health Board's agreed policies and procedures and to practice in line with the Royal College of Psychiatrist's and the General Medical Council's good practice guidelines
  • Participate in clinical governance and audit. Clinical governance is a high priority in the Health board.
  • Maintain competence in the use of the Mental Health Act
  • Provide supervision and support to junior doctors and other members of the ND team.
  • Participate in teaching, administration and research opportunities, the HB has well stocked libraries at the 3 main admission sites which the post holder will have access to.
  • Participate in the continuing medical education program provided locally
