Description

The Liverpool Screen School, part of LJMU's Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies, offers undergraduate programmes in Creative Writing, Drama, Film Studies, Journalism and Media Production, together with postgraduate courses in Film, Documentary, Immersive Arts, Creative Technology, International Journalism, Writing and Screenwriting.

Creative Writing is a well-established programme with a strong research profile and reputation, particularly in Prose Fiction, Poetry, Radio Drama and Screenplay.

Current research interests in the department include:

Radio Drama, Crime Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction, Poetry & Poetics, Public Arts Projects, Travel Writing, Site-specific productions, and participatory writing within disadvantaged communities.

The team currently comprises ten members of staff, all of whom are research and/or professionally active and play a part in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The Creative Writing Programmes at LJMU offers students the opportunity to write creatively as well as reflecting critically on process.

The department is developing its strategic priorities in research, postgraduate provision, internationalisation, public engagement, and enterprise activity.

Reporting to the Programme Leader, you will contribute to these developments, whilst also undertaking teaching and administrative duties across the Creative Writing portfolio:

BA (Hons) Creative Writing, BA (Hons) Creative Writing and Film Studies, BA (Hons) English Literature and Creative Writing, BA (Hons) Drama and Creative Writing and our MA Writing.

Work-related learning is an important component of the undergraduate course with students developing practice-based writing projects. The department works with LJMU's Student Futures, and alumni of the programme have successfully established businesses on graduation. New staff will be expected to complement this activity and contribute their professional experience and expertise.

Liverpool is a city with a long and rich tradition of literature and is an excellent base to compose and teach Creative Writing.

The city boasts a vibrant culture and LJMU is proud of its many connections with local media and arts organisations, including The Everyman and Playhouse, The Unity Theatre, The Royal Court Theatre, The Liverpool Philharmonic, The Liverpool Tate, Lime Pictures, Liverpool Film Office, ITV and the BBC.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join LJMU in our bicentenary year and with the launch of our new strategic plan.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

LJMU is an equal opportunities employer and welcome applicants from all background and communities irrespective of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion or belief.
