This role is accountable for providing values driven support to our line managers on complex individual employee relations issues by acting as a key partner in driving solutions that contribute to delivering business performance and a positive work environment for our people.

This role is accountable for ensuring that our people policies are fairly applied across TfL and within employment law.

They play a key role in delivering business performance and creating better employee experiences and increasing the efficiency of our policies, procedures and processes.

They also support the Senior Manager - Employee Relations Partnering with knowledge management and feeding insights into enhancement of our policies and artificial intelligence of our technology platforms to provide good quality management information.


Key Accountabilities

  • Support our line mangers by providing timely and values driven specialist advice on high risk / complex individual ER issues and seek to recommend, where possible, informal solutions in the first instance and contribute to creating a positive work environment for our people
  • Support our line mangers by providing timely and values driven specialist advice on all complex employee matters to ensure these are handled in the most professional, efficient manner and tasks are actioned to the highest possible standard
  • Establish strong working relationships with other teams in the Employee Relations and Business Partnering team to develop an understanding of the business priorities and highlight possible risks
  • Identify trends in cases for the Senior Manager
  • Employee Relations Partnering so that insight is provided, relevant training for our line managers can be identified and policy recommendations are made
  • Coach line managers to build their capability to manage their people ensuring any individual employee relations issues are closed with appropriate recommended actions and any follow ups are actioned
  • Ensure any correspondence and documentation is in line with TfL's Tone of Voice Principles, legally compliant and can be readily understood by our people
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of all actions and documentation relating to cases being managed through to conclusion to enable quality management information
  • Support the Employee Relations Adviser team
  • Provide support to line managers by taking a holistic approach to employee matters whilst ensuring impartiality and maintaining organisational reputation

Key Accountabilities

  • Employee Relations and Business Partnering teams for specialist advice and to support delivery of appropriate solutions
  • Trade Union representatives to ensure constructive and professional relationships

Skills, knowledge and experience - all are essential unless otherwise stated

Knowledge

  • Relevant and uptodate knowledge of current employment law and ACAS best practice
  • How individual employee relations needs to be managed in a complex and highly unionised environment
  • Working with Trade Union's in a partnership approach and advising line management
  • Application of Employee lifecycle, HR policies, procedures and processes to drive solutions and influence to ensure they are effective
  • Methods of identifying root causes and provide interventions

Skills

  • Provide structured coaching as part of support to our line managers to build their capability
  • Know how to offer professional, uptodate, sensible advice to leaders, managers, and peers and is regularly sought out to do so and also challenges conventional wisdom
  • Maintain and monitor accuracy of case records, making necessary improvements and tracking progress against SLA's
  • Gather data from a variety of sources & interpret to provide analysis to inform credible conclusions with the use of visual aids
  • Know how to apply, educate and champion performance management tools and approaches
  • Communication skills highly effective written and presentation skills at all levels
  • Seek or create opportunities to test new ideas or innovations
  • Identify lessons learned and opportunities for continuous improvement

Experience

  • Significant HR experience, including strong background in employee relations and case management
  • Experience of working in a complex, highly unionised environment in a partnership approach with trade unions
  • Experience of coaching managers on complex cases
  • Experience of diagnosing problems/issues
  • Professionally qualified, e.g., higher level degree or equivalent (desirable)
