The difference you will make as a Senior Building Safety Officer (Fire Risk)


The role holder will support the Building Safety Manager (Fire Strategy and Delivery) to implement and manage the approach to Fire Safety, including the identification of building safety risk, assessment and support decisions on key controls and risk mitigation and providing assurance buildings are safe for customers.


This includes the procurement, implementation and quality assurance of an effective and risk-based program of Building safety inspections, fire risk assessments, intrusive surveys and managing day to day activities which impact on safety of our shared spaces and customer homes.


About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience of successfully undertaking the role of (Competent Person) supporting the management of Fire Safety and delivering effective services to large and diverse portfolio of mix tenure properties within the Housing or Health and Safety sector.
  • NEBOSH Fire Certificate/Diploma or Certified in Applied Fire Risk Assessment (previously FRA and Fire Safety Management) or equivalent with ability to meet the proposed Accountable person role competence requirements under the Building Safety Act.
  • In depth knowledge of Fire & Building / Structural Safety within Social Housing, including government and industry guidance, British standards, building regulations and the requirements of Fire Safety Order 2005 (RRO), Fire Safety Bill 2020 and proposed Building Safety Act and impacts for housing sector.

Role Profile

Accountabilities or "What You Have to Do":

  • Support and take appropriate steps and actions to mitigate and manage those risks on an ongoing basis so the building can be safely occupied.
  • Act as the Deputy Group's lead advisor for Fire Safety across all services, for the lifecycle of buildings, including acquisition, design and build, occupation, refurbishment, demolition and disposal, providing technical, procedural, specification and compliance guidance as required.
  • Support Building Safety Manager implement our strategic approach to fire safety and building safety management and develop and implement supporting fire safety policy, operational management plans and procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with appointed Building Safety Managers by supporting them in carrying out the day to day functions of ensuring that the building is safely managed, including assessment of risk, introduction of effective controls and remediation.
  • Develop and implement an effective and timely riskbased program of Safety inspections on behalf of the Group, ensuring adherence to relevant regulatory, statutory and compliance frameworks.
  • Procure and manage our Fire & structural Safety assessment programs including fire risk assessment, intrusive fire investigation through type 4 FRA, compartmentation surveys, external wall surveys, fire door inspections etc, and ensure appropriate action and controls are implemented and recorded to mitigate risk impacting customer safety.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the operational effectiveness of the Building Safety Management model and Fire Safety policies, procedures and guidance on behalf of the Group, including the provision of Fire Safety training for appropriate colleagues, taking into account up to date legislation, amendments to codes of practice, health and safety requirements and industry best practice, proactively adopting new and innovative ideas and solutions to ensure continuous improvement of the service.
