Support Driver,

Central Belt / Fife, Edinburgh & Borders, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire

Hourly rate:
£13.50 p/h, 45 hours per week + overtime + on call rota

Smart City Recruiters Ltd are currently recruiting Support Drivers to work across the Scotland Central belt and surrounding areas.

The support driver role is essential in enabling operational teams and managers to deliver work in a safe and efficient manner and will involve daily the delivering and collection of a wide variety of critical items to different addresses and through different routes throughout the geographical footprint of the SPEN contract in Scotland.


The daily tasks will also include although not exhaustive delivering and collecting mechanical plant, signing, lighting, and guarding and essential items that will be requested throughout the day.

Working under the instruction and supervision of a Reinstatement Manager the work will involve the driving (Loading & Unloading) of plant construction site vehicles as well as taking photographs of completed sites following reinstatement and removal of all equipment.

The completion of an SLG inspections every 24 hours when sites are left unattended will also form part of the role when requested.

At all times to be working in a safe manner with consideration towards fellow road users, colleagues and members of the public who may encounter our works.

Consistently demonstrate, promote, and develop exacting standards of safety behaviour spending most of the time based at various on-site locations.


  • Ensuring all sites that are visited are clear of all equipment associated with the project.
  • Organise your workday ensuring effective communication and coordination is always maintained.
  • Attend and participate in internal management appropriate toolbox talks, safety briefings and team briefs.
  • Liaison with Reinstatement department to ensure the efficient and expedient reinstatement of the public and private areas to aid the collection of all equipment on site.
  • Ensure all required data, records, forms etc. are recorded and submitted accurately and by the appropriate deadlines.
  • Maintain relationships with relevant local authority representatives and supply chain.
  • Deliver on request SLG in accordance with the new roads and street works code of practice.
  • Ensure sandbags are utilised at sites you are visiting on all signs and replaced as required
  • Completion of an onsite assessment to determine the need and frequency of sandbags on barriers.
  • Ensure waste and materials are proactively controlled to reduce the cost and impact on the environment.
  • Carry out any other reasonable requests or duties as and when requested for the good of the business.

Person Specification

  • Experience and a sound understanding of utility works is an advantage but not necessary as training will be provided.
  • Have a good understanding of Health & Safety and Environment.
  • Ability to understand instructions and carry them out reliably and efficiently.
  • Confident working on your own and as an initiativetaking team player who is controlled under pressure.
  • You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity as you will carrying out lifting and handling of bulk items.
  • You will be required to work outdoors in all weathers and be required to walk and stand on uneven ground.
  • The work is often physically demanding so good physical fitness, strength and stamina is required.
  • Experience in delivering works in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Be thoughtful and considerate towards customers, community diversity (age, religion, cultures, festivities celebrations.
  • Live up to the expectations of the client regarding systems and processes, behaviours, and values.
  • Dress, present and behave in a manner which respects and enhances the SPEN and client brands.
  • Highly selfaware in terms of how they come across to others.
  • Organised, punctual, thorough, with good record keeping.

Qualifications Required

  • EUSR SHEA Power
  • NRSWA Qualification (SLG essential)
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Towing Licence (Category C1)

£13.50 per hour
