The post is designed for a General Haematologist. This would be the ideal situation; however, consideration would be given to those with other areas of expertise. For instance, in aspects of General Haematology such as Myeloma.

The post holder has time set aside in the job plan for providing on a rotational basis the daily Consultant laboratory support (1 in 5).

Predominantly for this post these aspects are blood film reporting and participation in the haemostasis and thrombosis MDT with the appropriate laboratory staff.


The post holder will be expected to undertake outpatient clinics (new and follow-up), attend multidisciplinary meetings and participate on the on-call rota on a rotational basis.


The Plymouth Haematology service is the lead tertiary centre in the Southwest Peninsula with a catchment area of 1.8 million people.

The consultant team are proud to lead a research active Haematology service in the Southwest Peninsula with an impressive national and international reputation in the research arena.


Fixed sessions are likely to include:
Haemostasis & Thrombosis clinic

General Haematology clinic

Myeloma clinic

Participation in general Haematology MDT, Thrombosis MDT, lymphoma/Myeloma MDT

Weekly Monday ward round

Weekly Friday departmental integrated diagnostics meeting
