We are looking to recruit an
Assessment Officer starting
ASAP, for 1 month, with the possibility of an extension.

The role would require the successful applicant to be in the
office (Mile End) 3 days per week, ideally, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

We will be paying
£20.47 per hour plus holiday pay.

Job purpose
To assist the Teaching and Learning Manager and academic leads in overseeing all

within the School of Economics and Finance. To follow, create and implement procedures to ensure compliance with the School and University regulations.


Main duties and responsibilities

  • To manage and oversee all processes and policies relating to examinations and assessment within the School of Economics and Finance
  • Provide expert support and meet with students and staff, having full knowledge of the academic regulations together with adherence to policies and procedures
  • Represent the School's interests on various School, Faculty or university wide committees and working groups as appropriate.
  • To support the secretary to the SEB and to take an active role in all relevant examination and assessment committees.
  • Ensure the effective management of all problems and issues raised, both foreseen and unforeseen during the examination process to ensure continuity of service delivery and problem solving for all stake holders and ensuring that the codes of practice are adhered to.
  • To identify and develop new projects and opportunities to enhance the work of exams and assessment in the School.
  • To interpret complex data and produce management information in order to provide detailed analysis around the areas of examinations and assessment for revelvant committees and working groups.
  • Take independent analytical decision to develop and implement the Schools strategies around examinations and assessment including implementing the Schools Policy to diversify assessments away from invigilated exams.
  • To monitor and review the efficiency and effectiveness of all processes relating to exams and assessment including non standard assessment periods for January start programmes.
  • To influence, implement and maintain School policy with regard to examinations and assessment and to act as the principle contact within the School with regards to the academic regulations, advising academics, teaching and administrative staff as appropriate to ensure compliance.
  • In conjunction with the Student Support Officer, oversee the mitigating and extenuating circumstances procedures, including providing accurate advice to students and staff on School and QMUL procedures relating to mitigating and extenuating circumstances
  • In conjunction with the Student Support Manager to review and assess the School's policies and procedures around extenuating circumstances to ensure fit for purpose, and make recommendations at relevant School meetings and undertake implementation. To liaise with Disabilities and Dyslexia team and School Student Support Officers when setting assessment activity, to ensure compliance with Queen Mary and legal requirements.
  • To organise the smooth running of assessments, including exam paper production, setting up online assessments, organising invigilators (including hours and payment), ensuring marking deadlines are met and managing the student feedback processes.
  • To oversee and monitor the timetabling of assessment related activities, ensuring student needs are taken into consideration.
  • To be a point of contact for External Examiners in the School, including organising expenses and accommodation.
  • To be responsible for entering marks into MySIS and QMplus
  • To assist with assessment offense cases, providing reports for the School Examinations Boards
  • Share good proactive and knowledge between schools and other professional service areas to foster a culture of educational excellence.
  • To follow School and University processes in the execution of duties and develop any necessary processes in order to carry out the duties of this post.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Proven record of examinations or assessment experience in a higher education institution or or similar organisation.
  • Highly numerate and with significant experience of data manipulation, data analysis and statistics.
  • Experience of and a creative approach to, problem solving and responding flexibly.
  • Significant experience of working and communicating collaboratively, supporting and working with key stakeholders.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of higher education institutional procedures, regulations and codes of practice on student administration.

Skills/Abilities
Effective use of IT systems in support of role.

Strong interpersonal skills including motivational, negotiating, influencing and relationship building.

Excellent written, verbal and numerical skills with experience of writing reports and evaluating documents.
