We are looking for an enthusiastic, diligent and motivated person with the appropriate knowledge, experience and skills to lead the Theatre Patient Escort service.

This post is a flexible post with possibility of working across site to meet service needs. You will be working closely with another Deputy Supervisor, with whom, once established you will work opposite shifts. You will be supported by the Patient Escort Team Leader, who will demonstrate the role in its entirety.

Main duties of the job


The successful applicant will participate in the current Main Theatre rota which includes out of hours work and weekend shifts.

There is a commitment to Bank Holiday work.

The Theatre Patient Escort service is responsible for the safe, effective collection and transportation of theatre patients to and from theatres across the hospital.

Working for our organisation

Hours of work are 37.5 hrs worked flexibly over 7 days and will include out of hours shifts. The shifts will rotate with the established Deputy Supervisor, covering Study Leave, Annual Leave, etc. Cross site working may also be required to cover A/L.

To provide Leadership to the Theatre Patient Escort Team, delegating where necessary and ensuring appropriate allocation of workload. This will include monitoring Theatre Patient Escort staff are offering a safe standard of care to patients while they are waiting in theatre reception before their surgery

To work as part of the Theatre Patient Escort Team and the wider multidisciplinary team. To take charge providing daily efficient, safe and effective patient movement service within the Theatre Directorate. This will include working closely with other departments to attain safe and efficient transfer of patients.


To work closely with the Theatre Patient Escort Team Leader & relevant others to plan and develop the service and the team.


Act as a positive role model ensuring all the team are working within Trust Policies and guidelines and delivering a high quality patient focused service.

This will include sharing responsibility with Theatre Patient Escort Team Leader for staff training & competencies being up to date.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrate effective written communication skills
  • Evidence of competence as a trainer & knowledge of Manual Handling and Safety
  • Must have 1 year experience in the following areas, Team working/ staff supervision and training.
  • Willingness to undertake all training required to undertake the role of Patient Escort, e.g. moving and handling, infection prevention, fire training and BLS
Desirable criteria

Experience and Understanding

Essential criteria

  • Ability to understand and adhere to working practices for providing a Patient Escort Service (e.g. transfer of patients, medical gases, blood, management of heavier patients)
- bility to recognise and assist in the care of patients who may be anxious /apprehensive /aggressive.

  • Recognises own role in team and is aware of own ability and role limitations
Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience in a Health Care setting working as a Supervisor or people manager role.

Qualifications:

Essential criteria

  • GCSE or equivalent in literacy & numeracy
  • Must have 1 year experience in the following areas, Team working/ staff supervision and training.
Desirable criteria

  • Is a recognised Trainer in Moving & Handling/BLS/Specific equipment etc.

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
