The NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service is recruiting in parallel 5 enthusiastic and dynamic pharmacy professionals to join the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) Procurement team.

These new posts will become Associate Regional Pharmacy Procurement Specialists working to the existing Regional Pharmacy Procurement Specialists.


The post-holder will be working with the Regional Pharmacy Procurement Specialists (RPPSS) to ensure operational delivery of our service against the SPS National Service Specification.

You will work very closely with the RPPSs alongside the Commercial Medicines Unit, assisting in the operationalisation and delivery or an optimised supply chain across England.

The post holder is expected to provide expert operational leadership for pharmacy procurement services within their designated NHS England region, managing medicines and medicine related services primarily to the hospital sector of the NHS.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues across the other functions within SPS.


The NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) supports the NHS to develop best practice systems of work-related to buying, making and using medicines.

The service provides leadership, instructive and informative specialist input and operational support to the sourcing, supply and use of medicines across the system.

Within the SPS Procurement team, we focus on supporting medicines optimisation and patient care through supporting the national agenda for the procurement of medicines for the NHS, supporting the NHS with the implementation and monitoring of uptake of national contracts for medicines, and supporting supply chain management at a national, regional, and Trust level.


The post-holder will work as part of a regional and national team in delivering agreed priorities, facilitating access to the most appropriate medicines, delivered via a robust supply chain, to the NHS organisations in their region, whilst offering best value for money to those organisations.

They will also work collaboratively with the other regional leads and their associate leads to deliver pharmacy procurement services as outlined in the NHS SPS service specification (December By working as part of an integrated SPS team, the Associate Regional Pharmacy Procurement Specialist will be able to facilitate making medicines optimisation routine practice across the NHS and will promote equal and equitable service provision for all NHS patients.


The national specification for regional pharmacy procurement includes helping implement the national Medicine Optimisation agenda, supporting the Commercial Medicines Unit (CMU) in relation to all contracting activities and ensuring the needs and requirements of chief pharmacists, and their pharmacy procurement teams, are represented at all levels of the NHS.

The post holder will support the RPPS leads and their associates in delivering all elements of the SPS specification.

This will involve working with all SPS functions as well as colleagues in NHSE, DHSC and the local health economy (ICBs as they become statutory bodies).
