Assistant Herdsperson - Cholmondeley Farms Ltd
We are currently looking for an Assistant Herdsperson to join our dairy farm in Cheshire

Our Farm

We are a dairy farm covering around 1,700 acres, currently milking approximately 600 cross-bred cows in two herds across two units.

We have one 400 cow Spring calving herd and one 200 cow Autumn calving herd.

Your Role

As an Assistant Herdsperson you will be working closely with the Herd Manager to ensure our high standards of hygiene, cow health and welfare are maintained.

Some daily responsibilities will include but won't be limited to;

Milking as part of a team to a high and consistent standard.
Supporting the daily management of the herd and ensuring animal welfare is the top priority, identifying any lame cows and raising this to senior management.
Maintaining records and ensuring data is kept up to date.
Keeping the farm overall tidy & safe to operate, adhering to health and safety protocols
Liaising with vets, auditors and suppliers for the farm
Treating & identifying illnesses such as mastitis and informing the Herd Manager of any observations
General Farm work including maintenance, scraping and mucking out.
Supporting the team with dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols.

A full UK driving license and proof of UK right to work are required for this role. A telehandler license and a Foot trimming qualification are both preferred, but not essential.

You

You will need to demonstrate experience in agriculture, but we are willing to invest in the right individual with the required training.

Experience in dairy and all-year-round calving is preferred, but a person's behaviours and values are just as important as experience to us.

This is a role where you can develop your current skills, whilst also learning new abilities along the way.

You would be a highly motivated individual who is enthusiastic about supporting us in moving the farm forward as a team.
