SEN School Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs Support

Specialist SEN school for pupils with Autism/ASC, complex needs, Severe Learning Disabilities (SLD), and Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)

Peckham, South East London

April Start, Full-Time (term time only)

Up to £20,674 per year, Permanent Contract

We have a fantastic partnership with a specialist SEN school based in Peckham.

We are looking to recruit a passionate and creative SEN School Teaching Assistant to join the school after the Easter holiday.

This is a permanent contract, full-time (term timeonly). The working hours are 9am until 4pm.

This position is perfect for someone who is an aspiring Education Psychologist, Child Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Physio Therapist, and many more This position is also perfectfor someone with family members or friends who have additional needs and learning disabilities.

What are you expected to do?

  • Supporting pupils in classroom settings; 68 pupils per class with 35 adults
  • Participating and engaging in school trips and other extracurricular activities
  • Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities, as well as monitoring and assessing children's achievement and progress
  • Working closely with the school's multidisciplinary team and parents/ family members/ carers
  • Actively getting involved in a wide range of activities, promoting the physical, cognitive, cultural, social, and emotional wellbeing of the pupils
  • Actively interacting with children through playbased and sensoryrelated activities
Some of our pupils have Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN), and some are non-verbal. Some pupils have complex medical needs and mobility issues. You may also experience physical and behavioural challenges associated with the needs. Being ableto use Makaton, Signalong, or PECs is ideal. Personal Care (feeding and toileting) and hydrotherapy are required as this is a part of the job.

Requirements for SEN School Teaching Assistant

  • A positive, proactive, and patient individual who has a cando attitude and is willing to learn
  • A team player and has great communication skills
  • Being able to build good working relationships with students and staff
