Do have good administrative skills or experience? Do you want to be a key part in coordinating an ongoing collections services rail vehicles project?

About us

As part of the Science Museum Group (SMG), the National Railway Museum (NRM) in York is here to inspire futures.

Our unique collection of historic railway vehicles requires on-going hazards management to ensure each item is maintained and usable for future audiences.

This role will work as part of the Conservation and Collections Care team, who are responsible for the care, management and ongoing use of our objects.

We are now recruiting for a Project Coordinator (Collections Services) to join on a full-time, permanent contract, working 35 hours per week.

About the role

As Project Coordinator (Collections Services) you will be working across our National Railway Museum site at York and our Locomotion site in Shildon.

You will coordinate and provide support to teams engaged in an ongoing programme of rail vehicle hazards management.

Your focus will be on coordinating the rail vehicle asbestos programme in line with the NRM masterplan project Vision 2025 and SMG legislative requirements, ensuring that the programme with our contractors is scheduled and that all paperwork is accurate and up to date.

You will be liaising with these contractors to arrange and co-ordinate the inspection and remediation of hazards in railway vehicles, often acting as contract supervisor and first point of contact.

You will also be collating and presenting data in line with the project requirements and schedule and ensuring the project is run effectively and efficiently, and that appropriate systems are in place for timely access to information and data.

About you

Joining us you will have strong administrative skills, with good accuracy, attention to detail and organisation skills.

You will have the ability to prioritise tasks effectively in addition to using problem-solving skills and your initiative to exercise sound judgement under pressure.

Crucially you will be a good communicator with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, including external suppliers and contractors.

You will be able to use Microsoft Office packages such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams and you will have a willingness to learn and use new systems and databases.
