Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join our project in the Southwest where we are a delivery partner on a key infrastructure project.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in one of the most complex and challenging projects in the UK today, where you will be responsible for management of the complete construction process at site level.


Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain safe systems of work
  • Be responsible and cooperate with the Project Manager to ensure work is planned and undertaken in accordance with the Project Safety, Health and Environmental Plan
  • Manage and implement the quality process in accordance with the Project Quality Plan, with a particular emphasis on defect avoidance and zero defects at completion to ensure Nuclear Safety
  • Plan, organise, implement, review and monitor procedures with respect to Environmental impact and maintain overall responsibility for the implementation of the Project Environmental Plan
  • Be proactive in controlling project costs and provide detailed reports on variances against weekly forecasts
  • Identify risks and opportunities, both technical and commercial, and take account of these in developing a strategy for successful project delivery
  • Manage and monitor the progress of work against realistic programme milestones and advise on measures to mitigate delay as necessary
  • Be responsible for contractual matters relating to the Contract and Subcontracts, for raising the necessary correspondence, change management and for record keeping
  • Ensure that subcontractor and supplier contractual programmes are within the required timescale, are regularly updated and effectively implemented
  • Be proactive in obtaining permanent and temporary works design information within required timescales and ensure that the information is cascaded as necessary
  • Effectively manage the contractor design elements of work
  • Ensure that all subcontractor and supplier plans and procedures are compatible with the discharge of the client's and Costain's obligations and responsibilities
  • Liaise with third parties as necessary
  • Carry out any other reasonable project tasks as requested by the Project Manager

About you

  • Relevant experience in construction, preferably in a highly regulated environment
  • Technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices
  • Experience of coordinating design work and supervising subcontracts
  • Understanding of Engineering Principles
  • Experience of NEC Form of Contract and Subcontract
  • CSCS card

Qualifications/Experience

  • Degree level/HNC/HND qualification in a Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years work experience within a similar role with a main contractor in built environment
  • SMSTS / IOSH
  • Member of relevant Professional Institute
  • Training in Health, Safety and Environmental management
