Hilton Foods is looking for a
Payroll & Finance Apprentice to assist the payroll manager to deliver a high quality, efficient and effective weekly payroll in a timely and accurate manner.

With a view to develop the skills and experience to take ownership of specific payroll & finance tasks.


As a Payroll & Finance Apprentice
some of the responsibilities will be to:

  • Use professional payroll software to run a weekly payroll service to ensure our employees are paid accurately and on time
  • Extract and process payrollrelated information from our Time & Attendance system.
  • Process starter and leavers information
  • Completing various payrelated documentation and payments to external agencies, such as Cycle to Work and SAYE scheme
  • Processing all statutory payments including Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) and Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP), along with holiday pay an unpaid leave.
  • Complete various forms for internal and external administration such as HMRC and our pension provider, in line with service deadlines.
  • Processing year end payroll procedures as required by HMRC, including producing P60's
  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships across departments to deliver the highest levels of service
  • Undertake and successfully complete Level 3 Payroll Administration Apprenticeship. Attend other training sessions deemed necessary to meet the duties and responsibilities of the post
  • To assist with general administration tasks within the wider finance team

To succeed as a Payroll & Finance Apprentice,
we ask that you have the following experience/expertise:

  • Functional skills English & Maths Level 2 / GCSE Grade C (level 4) or above


  • Excellent IT Skills

  • Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
  • Experience working as part of a team (this could be in a sporting, educational, work or social setting) as well as demonstrating use of own initiative.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of confidentiality when dealing with personal information
  • Excellent attention to small detail.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service.


  • Iris

  • Payrite payroll software experience is desirable but not necessary.
