Specialist Sensory Teaching Assistant (Vision Impairment)

Low Incidence Needs Team (LINT)
37 hours per week / Term-time only

Grade G + SSA (Level 4 qualified)


Due to the expansion of the Low Incidence Needs Team (LINT) we are looking to a Specialist Sensory Teaching Assistant within the area of vision impairment.

LINT works across the age range within both mainstream and special school settings. Applicants will be expected to work flexibly where required across Gateshead.


The successful applicant will have or be willing to work towards the Grade 1 Braille qualification and will be required to achieve Grade 2 within 2 years.


Applicants must have an awareness of the impact of vision loss upon learning and development, together with a good understanding of child development, learning processes and barriers to learning.

They should also have a working knowledge of the national and early years curriculum, programmes and strategies.


Experience of working with vision impaired children and young people is preferable together with experience of using specialist resources and technologies.

You must hold a current driver's licence and have access to a car or means to mobility support.
