'Voices of the City' Oral History Participation Curator

Salary:
£16,625.70 per annum


Contract: 3 years (Fixed Term)
We are recruiting for an Oral History Participation Curator on a 3 year part time contract.

The role will coordinate and manage key strands of the project working collaboratively with volunteers and community partners on the research, development, and documentation of Birmingham's nationally important oral history collection.


About the Voices of the City Project


Birmingham's City Sound Archive (CSA) represents the memory of the city through the voices of its people in 1,500 oral history recordings given by local people between The CSA is Designated by Arts Council England as nationally significant and is one of the largest archives of oral history interviews with Birmingham people to be found the city.

The CSA was originally set up to function as a publicly accessible resource, but changes in technology hindered access to what was an analogue collection, resulting in the use of the archive remaining dormant in recent years.

Voices of the City is a 3-year project funded by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

The project will explore new methodologies for developing the CSA and create a publicly accessible archive co-curated with volunteers and community partners.

Well-being support and skills development for participants will ensure emotional safety and opportunities beyond the project.


The role is part time; working 22.2 hours per week, on a hybrid basis, with time spent at the Museum Collection Centre just outside Birmingham City Centre.

Interviews will be taking place week commencing
9th October 2023.
