Description

Reporting into the Director of Finance and Resources, the role holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the operational Finance function.

With the support of the Finance Assistant, they will be required to manage the financial transactionsof RDA and its two trading subsidiaries, and to oversee the management of the outsourced monthly payroll.


Finance Officer Responsibilities:

Accounts
Manage the financial transactions of RDA and its two trading subsidiaries by:

  • reconciling all bank accounts, to include RDA, its two trading subsidiaries and relevant regional accounts
- preparing quarterly regional accounts for Regions administered by National Office
- processing monthly journals for prepayments, postage, etc
- processing other income and expenditure relating to, for example, the National Championships, JustGiving, etc
- assisting with the year-end process and audit
- assisting with the annual budget process
- educating and supporting budget managers with the budget management process and associated RDA requirements
- other ad hoc finance tasks as required


Finance:


  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns for RDA and its two trading subsidiaries
  • Prepare and submit quarterly Gift Aid claims for RDA
  • Assist with the annual Membership and Insurance process
  • Administer bank signatory changes on BankLine
  • Ensure that surplus cash and cheques are banked on a timely basis
  • Assist Regional Treasurers with ad hoc queries

Payroll

Oversee the monthly payroll process by:

  • ensuring services are provided by the outsourced payroll provider in accordance with the agreed SLA and reporting on the effectiveness
- overseeing the provision of monthly pay data to the payroll provider by HR to include accurate details for starters, leavers etc


Line Management responsibilities:


  • Ensuring that the Finance Assistant has an uptodate and regularly reviewed job description and person specification and clarity around their performance objectives and deliverables and that these are monitored and updated regularly in line with the department'sstrategic aims
  • Managing employee relations issues such as health and safety, poor performance, sickness absence etc. in a supportive, consistent and timely manner in line with RDA policies and procedures
  • Leading and inspiring direct reports and team to achieve the highest level of performance and develop their skills and talents to enable them to reach their full potential
  • Managing all staff in accordance with RDA policies and procedures

Other Responsibilities:


  • Attend and assist at the annual RDA National Championships
  • Visit RDA groups / regions on an occasional basis

Finance Officer Requirements
Essential Criteria

  • Experience of operationally managing a busy accounts department, to include sales and purchase ledgers, bank reconciliations, etc.
  • Qualified to a minimum of AAT level
  • Ability to work as part of a small team and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience of line management
  • Experience of working to deadlines and budgets
  • Ability to work independently to agreed targets
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to multitask
  • Empathy with aims and values of RDA
Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in finance within the charity sector, in a similar role
  • Understanding of charity finance including VAT and Gift Aid
  • Knowledge/experience of Sage 50 Accounts
  • Experience of delivering a payroll service and / or oversight of outsourced payroll
  • Experience of working with volunteers

Location:
RDA National Office (Lowlands Equestrian Centre, Warwickshire) - option to work from home up to one day a week


Contract Type:
Permanent


Hours:
Part Time, 3 days per week


Salary:
£30,000 to £33,000 per annum FTE depending on experience
