The Team Leader is responsible for managing a team of Technicians within Microbiology Media Production and QC department at Chatteris.

Technicians are responsible for the daily production of media and performance of QC testing for the department


The main tasks of the Team Leader will be ensuring the smooth running of the daily activities in full compliance with our high H&S and Quality standards whilst ensuring productivity.


This role is an excellent opportunity to gain useful insight on the workings of a cutting-edge commercial food and waters testing laboratory.

This role will be key in successful management of the department, ensuring a close relationship and strong and effective communication with the laboratory, other departments and clients.

Our Team Leaders are members of a Management Team committed to providing an excellent service to our clients through operational management of the laboratory including:

  • Lead and maintain an appropriate Health & Safety regimes ensuring, risk assessments etc. are conducted;
  • Lead and maintain appropriate Quality Control procedures in accordance with our Quality Management System;
  • Lead and manage appropriate HR procedures in accordance with our Company policies and procedures;
  • Handle routine customer communications
  • Manage the department, in line with company policies and procedures. To include the management of their working hours using our Company's Time Management System in line with the relevant legal requirements;
  • Develop individuals within the team using the Company's training and development processes, identifying talented individuals and considering succession planning;
  • Coordinate and deliver appropriate training to team members, as required;
  • Ensure that all employees are trained in the use of any supporting software systems and that such systems are being fully utilised;
  • Use KPIs generated to work with other members of the management team/departments to ensure that the laboratory meets their customer demands and workload is managed effectively.
  • Root cause analysis for QC failures
