Job Purpose:


  • I am a 19 year old woman with Autism, visual impairment and other additional needs. I am looking for Personal Assistant to support me with independence and help me to enjoy life to the fullest. I can appear quiet when I first meet you after a while you will find that I am quite chatty about things that interest me and I have a great sense of humour. I enjoy music and love going to the theatre and attending concerts. I enjoy shopping, especially for makeup and hair accessories, and going out for hot chocolate and cake.

Details

Duties to include:


  • Independent travel on public transport support in accessing public transport, reading timetables, choosing a journey, carrying out journeys and planning an agenda for getting somewhere.
  • Maintaining my bedroom changing bedding and being responsible for the washing and drying; tidying and organising the room, polishing and hoovering. Making the room safe ensuring cables are out of the way, floor is clear and rubbish is removed, clothes put away orderly. Supporting me in developing house keeping skills.
  • Learning to cook and prepare a meal on the day that I am not in college part of the support for that day could be planning, prepping and cooking a meal for myself including helping me with the use of the hob. This could also include shopping for the necessary ingredients and planning where to get what.
  • Managing medication ensuring that my repeat prescription has been ordered and picked up from the chemist. Making sure I have this on my calendar and organise my time to be able to order in time before my medication runs out.
  • Developing healthier and more sociable lifestyle supporting me in accessing club, swimming, walking, cinema dates, lunch dates and the associated social interactions and supervision in some settings. As well as support with finding voluntary work on the day I do not attend college and helping me to engage in that activity and fulfill my role.
  • Developing financial responsibility help me with personal shopping, for example shopping for my own toiletries, buying gifts and personal items. Support with managing my money and helping me in being aware of value when choosing what to buy. Engaging with adults in retail if they ask questions or if I need to ask/enquire about something in a shop.

Desirable:

Driving license holder with own vehicle and appropriate business insurance cover
Previous training or experience of the needs of someone with autism
Previous training or experience around someone with vision impairment
First aid trained


Summary terms and conditions:

Rate of pay for this position is £12.00 per hour
You will be reimbursed for any agreed expenses incurred as a part of the role
Free Care Skills Training provided to employed staff


Hours and times of work:

Flexible across the week, including weekend hours. This would be agreed in advance for clarity. Evenings and daytime support required. I have 14 hours per week support which can be used flexibly but must be fulfilled within a month, I would accept job share to allow for greater flexibility

A satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, the cost of which will be covered by the employer

  • Satisfactory references from two referees, one of which must be your current or last employer
  • Completion of a satisfactory probationary period of 6 months
