ITIL Lead
The ITIL Lead is part of the Bank's Technology Directorate reporting into the Head of Technology Transformation.


You are accountable for defining and delivering a plan to achieve compliance across the Technology Directorate against the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework and ensure ongoing adherence, championing best practice in service delivery to drive and sustain improvements to the way things are done.

This role is a technical leadership role, based on deep expertise in the area of ITIL standards.

It is accountable for the delivery of one of the key workstreams in the Technology Transformation programme, which is a key priority of the Governors and Court.


Primary accountabilities:


  • Definition of the scope and requirements for ITIL compliance_
  • You are accountable for specifying the objectives for compliance against the current version of ITIL practices and agree them with the Technology Leadership Team.
  • You define ITIL certification objectives for relevant roles and feed into the Technology Leadership Team planning process.
  • Evaluation and delivery of ITIL compliance_
  • You are accountable for defining the strategy for evaluating ITIL compliance including internal evaluation and external feedback from a third party.
  • You develop the delivery plan for achieving ITIL compliance setting out activities, milestones and resources including any external dependencies.
  • You deliver the ITIL compliance plan, supporting the Head of Infrastructure and Service and wider Technology Leadership Team through the implementation and managing risks, issues and realisation of benefits.
  • You define and manage the process for ongoing monitoring and maintaining adherence to ITIL, reporting regularly to the Technology Leadership Team and escalating issues as required.
  • Expertise in service delivery best practice and the ITIL framework_
  • You provide expert level advice and guidance on best practice to colleagues at all levels in the Technology Directorate to improve the maturity and effectiveness of their practices against the ITIL framework.

Essential Criteria

  • Industry leading and extensive expertise in the implementation of ITIL within a medium / large technology function. Public Sector and/or financial Services a definite advantage
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, across both local management and external suppliers
  • Clear communication skills
  • Motivational and thought leading

Role requirements:

Demonstrating service delivery expertise: You have expert knowledge of prevailing delivery methods and practices through the full service management lifecycle across all areas pertaining to the role.

Demonstrating ITIL knowledge and experience: You have clear and extensive knowledge of the current version of the ITIL framework and demonstrable experience of implementing it in a technology organisation, preferably in the public sector.

Demonstrating strong delivery capability. You understand and have experience in Project delivery, and project management disciplines. Effective planning, risk management, stakeholder management are essential skills.

Demonstrating agility: You are comfortable with ambiguity and change, able to work methodically through complex problems, set priorities and execute on commitments. You are organised and work calmly under pressure.

Demonstrating negotiation and influencing skills: You are comfortable with negotiating, influencing, and coordinating the contributions of colleagues across the Technology Directorate supporting the CMMI compliance initiative.

Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills:You are able to flex your communication style with your audience and situation. You are able to build strong relationships across the Bank and are persuasive.
