Are you seeking an opportunity where you can make a real difference to over a million people? A role where you can help build safer communities, contribute to shaping victim services and influence important decisions at a local and national level?

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is recruiting an Intern on a fixed 12-month contract.

The role would suit either an undergraduate looking for a 12-month placement as part of their course, or a postgraduate who is looking to gain experience in this field.

The salary will be £22,101.

The position is based at the West Mercia Police Headquarters at Hindlip Hall in Worcester but may involve travel across the West Mercia region.

In your role you will have the opportunity to work across two dynamic teams within Policy and Commissioning who will provide you with the full support and guidance needed.

Main duties include:

Engaging with PCC funded (commissioned) service providers to assist the commissioning team in monitoring the PCC funded services.
Researching evidence bases for effective commissioning activity.
Support the commissioning team to explore gaps in services for victims of crime, prevention services etc. and use these to inform future commissioning activity.
Undertaking research work on key areas of business regarding victims, offenders and policing.
Preparing policy briefings for the Commissioner and the wider office based on research and available evidence.
Contributing to the development and delivery of the Police and Crime Commissioners West Mercia Police and Crime Plan.
A basic understanding of the role of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
An awareness of working within a politically sensitive environment.
An interest in working within a social work, policing or criminal justice related environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills across different platforms, be comfortable using various IT systems and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Experience undertaking independent research using a variety of sources

The successful individual will need to be vetted in line with normal policing procedures before they can start the role.

All other standard terms and conditions of employment will apply, including holiday entitlement and the payment of relevant expenses incurred.
