About the role


Our user-centred design team is growing and we're looking for experienced content designers to create user-centred plain English content for our new digital advice service.

You'll work closely with UX and UI designers user researchers product managers developers and others to ensure services meet user needs and business goals from a content perspective.


We believe financial advice doesn't have to be costly and financial planning doesn't have to be complex or scary - in fact it should be clear accessible and and easy for anyone to understand.

We are committed to putting our clients at the heart of everything we do and content design is vital in helping us achieve this goal.

About the role

As a content designer you will:

  • plan write and improve user-centric content across channels and throughout user journeys
- help your Agile squad and stakeholders at all levels adopt a user-centred evidenced approach to content
- create content for testing through user research documenting and acting on evidenced outcomes
- repeatedly and rapidly iterate and improve content based on evidence and sound rationale
- present content rationales and ideas to your colleagues in a clear and articulate manner
- support the content design discipline by participating in content critiques and creating clear and considered content documentation
- conform and contribute to organisational style guidance and design standards
- work with the Content Design Lead and the User Centred Design Practice to promote and shape content design at HL


Other opportunities

  • Working in the Open promoting clear constant communication between teams and across the business.
  • The Accessibility Working Group who promote Accessibility awareness and skills through mentorship training and knowledge sharing and provide Accessibility auditing and user research to teams across the business.
  • The Vulnerable Clients Working Group who use Behavioral Science to ensure we treat all clients fairly.

About you

We need to see evidence that you:

  • can confidently create plain English content to meet a variety of user needs including content for users with accessibility needs low digital literacy or low domain knowledge
- can follow a rigorous yet flexible fast-paced content design process within an Agile environment
- use an evidence-led approach to assessing and improving used-centric content
- collaborate with UX and UI designers to create prototypes and journeys that meet user needs and business goals
- have created user-centric content for transactional journeys and complex services
- have experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary product team tasked with frequent delivery
- can articulate content decisions to peers and stakeholders at all levels
- employ excellent analytical and critical thinking skills in your work


Desirable experience

Not essential but it can be helpful if you have:

  • experience creating content in a regulated industry
- good knowledge of web accessibility standards
- strong experience of writing for inclusivity and accessibility needs
- experience mentoring or managing other content writers
- experience using and contributing to design systems
- a degree in English modern languages journalism humanities or social sciences
