Description

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health.

Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

We are seeking an experienced researcher in spatial epidemiology and/or data science to develop and deliver a research portfolio that supports outbreak response for the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team (UK-PHRST) using a One Health approach.

The post-holder will manage new and innovative research projects and provide analytical expertise across the programme.

The post involves leading analysis of epidemiological, behavioural, demographic and environmental spatial datasets to develop and evaluate methods that improve outbreak preparedness, such as integrating data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and risk mapping/predictive spatial modelling.

It will involve close working with multi-disciplinary teams in the UK-PHRST and in Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) to improve outbreak detection and response.

The post-holder will also support the development of outbreak response teams in programme eligible countries to ensure effective preparedness and response for future epidemics/pandemics.

The post-holder should expect to travel overseas frequently on behalf of the UK-PHRST to build strategic partnerships and oversee research and capacity development projects in LMICs.

It is expected that the project will involve a range of complex and collaborative work that requires a high degree of personal motivation.

The post-holder should have a doctoral degree in a relevant topic. Further particulars are included in the job description.

The post is full-time, 1.0FTE and fixed term until 31 March 2025. The post is funded by the UK Government Overseas Development Aid and is available from 13 February 2023.
