We have a great opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Assistant Environmental Consultant / Environmental Consultant to join our Contaminated Land and Hydrogeology (CLAH) team in Birmingham with a focus on coordinating, supervising and managing site works.

We are seeking a confident and driven person who enjoys being out on site to input into our exciting and challenging projects.

Our client and project base are highly diverse with current projects in the nuclear new build, oil and gas, regeneration and redevelopment and major road and rail sectors in the UK and around the world.

The Contaminated Land & Hydrogeology Practice is a well-established, award winning, multi-disciplinary, environmental and engineering practice with an extensive portfolio of regeneration and development projects and a highly skilled team; notably with staff winning various awards over the past years.


Responsibilities

  • The role will have the following responsibilities:
  • Coordinating, supervising and managing site investigations, including soil sampling and logging.
  • Coordinating and undertaking monitoring of ground gas, vapour, leachate, groundwater and surface water.
  • Supervision of contractors on earthworks, remediation and materials management projects, etc.
  • Obtaining and maintaining site records and completing progress reporting.
  • Liaison with and management of contractors and stakeholders.
  • Compliance with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, including preparation of H&S Plans for site investigations and managing health and safety on site.
  • Organisation, collation and assessment of deskbased information as part of Phase 1 Desk Studies.
  • Assisting in design of Phase 2 site investigations.
  • Digital data management, development of conceptual site models, and undertaking qualitative and semiquantitative risk assessments for human health, controlled waters and property receptors. Preparation and delivery of factual and interpretative reporting.
  • Developing own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs; and
  • Management of own work and supporting senior management to ensure projects are to be delivered ontime, on budget and to quality and client expectations.

Requirements:


  • Be a digital innovator: experience of handing large data sets, developing graphic representations of data or finding new digital ways of working.
  • Demonstratable understanding of land contamination/brownfield land issues including knowledge of relevant codes of practice and industry standards such as Land Contamination Risk Management, BS5930, BS10175 and BS857
  • Some relevant experience within a contractor or consultancy environment.
  • Experience of supervising intrusive ground investigations using a range of site investigation techniques and earthworks.
  • Knowledge of site investigation techniques, and monitoring and sampling techniques for soils, ground waters, ground gas/vapours;
  • Experience of technical report writing and ability to draft technical reports under guidance to an acceptable technical quality.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the UK to deliver field work elements of the role.
  • CSCS card (or successfully obtain one within 3 months of joining Atkins); and
  • Full UK driving license.
