MAJOR PURPOSE OF POST:
To provide on-going support to ensure the effective delivery of quality Telecare Services in the Vale of Glamorgan.

To enable people to live as safely at home for as long as possible by maximising their independence and reducing the need for dependency on care packages.

The Telecare Service supports the management of risks in their home and community MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The job description refers to the principal duties and responsibilities of the Post.

It does not necessarily list in detail all the tasks required to carry out these duties and responsibilities.

  • To manage and prioritise the day to day workload of the Telecare service in the Vale of Glamorgan (including TeleV, TeleV+, VCAS dispersed and Housing Schemes), in conjunction with other Telecare Support Officer(s) and team members.
  • To deal with enquiries from the public, Health and Social Services and Housing staff and others in relation to the Telecare Service. To provide appropriate advice, support and guidance to referring agents, service users and carers on the Telecare equipment that best suits an individual's &/ or carers' needs, which will assist them to live more independently and to manage assessed risks within an appropriate level of delegated responsibility.
  • To undertake TeleV+ assessments of potential service user(s) referred by Social Services, Health professionals and other agencies including self/ carer referral in accordance with statutory duties and relevant legislation, within an appropriate level of delegated responsible.
  • To establish requirements based on individual need(s) and to programme and install appropriate equipment as required.
  • To undertake regular reviews of TeleV+ services to ensure that the potential of the service is being maximized.
  • To ensure timely assessment, programming, installation and maintenance of all Telecare services, to agreed standards, liaising with other professionals, service users and carers or agencies to effectively implement this.
  • To instruct service users and carers in the use of equipment, as appropriate, with particular regard to service user safety; alternatively to ensure that this is carried out by another party.
  • To quality check all processes and paperwork completed by the Contact One Vale Monitoring Operator following an installation.
  • To work with and support any Council staff or nominated contractors for the Council to deal with faults, breakdown of equipment or services and to deal with installation queries, as necessary; to oversee completion of work carried out by contractors to agreed standards, in conjunction with the Telecare Manager.
  • To liaise with Housing management, Housing officers and external contractors to undertake relevant work in relation to the Schemes. To attend residences in the community following liaison with housing Officers, Housing Managers and Team Manager if necessary to programme new equipment in relation to these schemes.
  • To review the Council's maintenance contract with suppliers and to review those services that it covers to ensure value for money and advise the Telecare Manager of any issues identified as part of the review process.
  • To support an efficient stock control mechanism to ensure that each piece of equipment can be accounted for at all times, and information is readily available on each service user's individual equipment package.
  • To be responsible for undertaking 6monthly stock takes, in conjunction with and advised by the Team Manager.
  • To deal with the retail of Telecare items as needed, in line with Council policy.
  • To support the maintenance of an efficient cleansing and recycling service for all Telecare equipment. To provide necessary training to new staff on the correct cleansing of electrical equipment.
  • To work with the Telecare Manager, the Team Leader and others responsible for Telecare at Contact One Vale to ensure the delivery of effective and efficient quality services.
  • To be an integral part of the team and to provide ongoing support and continued mentoring of Telecare colleagues
  • Support the Telecare Manager in ensuring that all team members are highly motivated and provide the highest possible levels of customer service to service users and their families / carers.
