The role
Reporting to the Performance Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the service to ensure the provision of regular and reliable bus services, and where applicable in accordance with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) contractual requirements, with no avoidable gaps, bunching and/or early running, through effective use of drivers, telephone and radio communication systems and technology.
  • Minimising lost mileage.
  • Supervising drivers to ensure they run buses according to schedules and company rules.
  • Utilising computer systems to report service quality data.
  • Liaising with garage administration colleagues to ensure that operating teams are effectively utilised on a daytoday basis.
  • Liaising with engineering colleagues to ensure that disruption due to defective vehicles is minimised.
  • Liaising with the police, highway authorities and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to ensure delays are minimised during periods of disruption, for example during major events and road closures.
  • Handling emergency situations effectively, such as accidents and emergency road closures.
  • Ensuring Drivers' Hours Regulations, health and safety rules and other relevant legislation is observed and adhered to.
  • Producing clear and concise records of decisions and events that occur.
  • Assisting with customers, including investigating and answering queries, comments and complaints.
  • Covering the Free Bus Supervisor role at Piccadilly Approach as and when required.
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Performance Manager.

Skills, knowledge, and experience:


  • To be target driven and motivated to achieve.
  • The ability to manage and coordinate people and activity to maxi mise performance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • To be an effective listener with the ability to empathise and treat others with respect.
  • The ability to use own initiative to resolve issues.
  • To be computer literate with the willingness to embrace new technology
  • To be able to effectively assess situations quickly and to react appropriately when under pressure
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, performance indicators and company procedures and agreements relating to service delivery.
  • Good knowledge of the local network.
