37.5 hours per week

The Western General Hospital is a participating centre of the Scottish Cancer Research Network (SCRN), an organisation which aims to increase patient participation in cancer clinical trials throughout Scotland.

The South East Scotland Cancer Research Network supports the provision of cancer clinical trials in a geographic area comprising the Health Board areas of NHS Lothian, NHS Fife, NHS Borders and NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

We are now seeking to employ a two full time Clinical Trials Assistant.

These posts will provide support within Team 2 and Haematology which covers the following tumour groups:

  • Breast
  • Haematology


The post-holder will work alongside medical and nursing colleagues to facilitate the collection of high quality data in a number of trials to ensure that protocol requirements and recognised standards (such as ICH GCP) are met.

The post-holder will be responsible for recording clinical data in case report forms (both paper and electronic) and liaising closely with trial data managers to ensure that all aspects of these trials meet regulatory guidelines.


Educated to degree level or with relevant experience, you should have strong analytical and reporting skills and be able to focus on detail.

It would be preferable if you have previous experience in the clinical trial environment.

Strong inter-personal and communication skills are essential for the development of professional relationships with medical, nursing, pharmacy and other staff groups involved in the support of clinical trials, and you must be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in an ever-changing work environment.
