About Our Client:


MIDAS is working with an experienced, collaborative and innovative building and construction services company with a proven track record for delivering award winning projects for an international portfolio of developers, public sector clients and blue-chipcompanies.


As Senior Design Manager, reporting to the Operations Manager and based across various sites in the Manchester area, you'll be responsible for both advising on and assessing the risk associated with design, buildability and compliance-related issues; leadingto the provision of technical and design assistance to colleagues.

A defining role which is key to the success of the complex schemes currently being undertaken, which are a range of mixed use, high-rise and residential projects with values ranging up to £50M.


The main duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Managing the timely delivery and quality of design information in line with procurement and construction programme
  • Managing design management functions and the design responsibility matrix
  • Appraising consultant appointments including costs
  • Managing external BIM consultants on projects with BIM requirements
  • Developing a training programme for the Assistant Design Manager
  • Managing an assistant Design Manager
  • Auditing and assess design information before and during construction
  • Managing sustainability accreditations
  • Reporting on risk to directors and project team
  • Advising on alternative efficient and compliant design solutions
  • Acting as the focus for the company's responsibilities as Principal Designer
  • Liaising with construction management team
  • Advising and agree programmes for information delivery
  • Attending meetings as and when required
  • Attending construction sites to appraise work
  • Assisting in implementation of company quality procedures
  • Providing technical and design advice and assistance to colleagues and group companies
  • Building and maintaining excellent working relationships with board members, key personnel/departments and external clients
  • Facilitating internal communications to ensure best use of tools available
  • Assisting in the implementation of company health and safety procedures
  • Working with the preconstruction team on tender bids when not on live schemes
  • Technical review of tender information

The Successful Applicant:


  • Experience of working in a similar role in either private practice or industry
  • Excellent technical expertise in the construction of complex building types
  • Knowledge of current design, planning legislation and compliance issues
  • Be able to utilise 3D software for visualisation, drawings review and clash detection
