Description

The Emergency Department (ED) is a Type 1 unit providing care for the acutely ill as well as self-referred minor injuries.

The ED sees the entire spectrum of the emergency case mix including acute medicine, paediatrics, major trauma, general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology and ENT.

There is an excellent Primary Care service locally as well as a co-located GP Out Of Hours unit, resulting in fewer patients presenting with primary care problems.

Our acute case mix therefore has a higher acuity. Networked arrangements are in place for Acute Stroke and Primary PCI with neighbouring hospitals in Manchester and Stockport.
