The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council.

We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need.


We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning.

In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.

  • Nursery Workers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Leadership/Management; and
  • Customer Care.
We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council's Job Shop.


Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?

The key purpose of this tutoring role is to develop teaching materials, and deliver maths sessions within community settings using a variety of methods and approaches for employed adults, and provide on course and exit information in order to increase knowledge, confidence and skills in financial literacy.

This will support achievement of outputs and outcomes outlined in the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Multiply Investment Plan.


This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a tutor to design, plan, and deliver high quality sessions to improve employed adults numeracy skills.

Applicants must have up to date knowledge of the Maths curriculum and relevant teaching experience within a community based adult education context.


You will need to demonstrate the ability to be flexible to deliver informal learning on a 1-2-1 or small group basis on different times of the day and on different days of the week, including evenings and weekends.

This includes in person delivery within local community settings or workplaces and/or online face to face sessions aimed at improving people's confidence and understanding of maths for work or everyday life.

In addition, the person appointed will have experience of setting individual targets and evaluating learner progress and achievements.

You must evidence a good understanding of safeguarding policies and be proactive in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.


You will have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a range of audiences and have the skills to promote Adult Education provision using a range of methods, including social media.

You must have English at Level 2 and Maths at Level 3 (or equivalent). A teaching qualification at Level 3 or higher is desirable but not essential.
