East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people's lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join East Suffolk Council's Planning Team as the
Sizewell C Lead Planner in the established and growing Energy Projects Team.

We are looking for a motivated and positive planner to lead on the Sizewell C project but also work as part of a team in managing and assessing Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) as required, seeking to deliver the best possible outcomes for East Suffolk.

The Government's commitment to a net-zero United Kingdom by 2050 will require significant changes to the energy sector and result in numerous energy projects in Suffolk.

The post holder will be working at the forefront of this transition.

The Secretary of State granted development consent for the Sizewell C project last year which involves the construction of a new nuclear power station producing low carbon electricity to help achieve the UK's target.

In addition to this, six offshore wind farms have been consented since 2008 within the district and East Suffolk faces proposals for further NSIPs in the form of undersea electricity links between Great Britain, Belgium, and Netherlands and also electricity transmission enhancements in the form of a subsea link between Suffolk and Kent.

It is calculated with all the offshore wind and nuclear development that is in place, and proposed, it will result in approximately 30% of the UK's electricity being routed via East Suffolk.

Why work for us?
East Suffolk Council is a great place to work and there are lots of benefits our employees can access.

To find out more about why we are so proud of East Suffolk Council,
take a look at our video and hear why our employees think it is such a great place to work (YouTube).

In addition to the rural and urban diversity of East Suffolk itself, the district is close to the large urban centres of both Norwich and Ipswich, with rail services providing access to the Council's offices by train.

We might be 'on the edge' but we can be accessed easily from a wide area (jpg) **and offer flexible and remote working in a dynamic team.

Here are some of the main benefits:

  • Great opportunities for training and development
  • Generous leave entitlement (equivalent to 24 days a year, increasing to 30 days after 5 years' service, plus bank holidays)
  • Local government pension scheme
  • Discounts on mobile phones, computers, holiday and travel, fashion and clothing, health and beauty and many other products and services.
