Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust requires a highly motivated, reliable and flexible Maintenance Assistant to work as a key member of
the Estates Team. You will play a proactive role within the team, delivering key objectives to meet both departmental and Trust requirements.

The post holder will assist the Estates Directorate to provide a comprehensive and responsive Estate Management Service to all of the Trust's properties.

You will be a hands on maintenance assistant who is able to deliver the full range of duties associated with the post holder's core craft trade.


To carry out day-to-day maintenance checks and repairs on engineering plant, equipment and the building fabric including: basic electrical, mechanical and building works e.g.

replacing lamps, repairing nurse call handsets, unblocking sinks, basic plumbing repairs, replacing ceiling tiles, simple joinery and decorating.

  • Emergency lighting testing.
  • Water quality management planned and reactive maintenance e.g. taking water samples,
checking water temperatures, recording results.

  • Boiler house and plant room duties e.g. water testing, steam plant checks.
  • Carry out basic electrical, mechanical and building works e.g. replacing lamps, repairing
nurse call handsets, unblocking sinks, basic plumbing repairs, replacing ceiling tiles, simple
joinery and decoration.

  • To assist craft persons of all trades in the repair and maintenance of hospital property and
equipment.

  • Collection of data e.g. utility meter readings.
  • Water softener plant checks including salt deliveries to the areas
  • To assist in the cleanliness and safety of hospital equipment, machinery, tools, vehicles and
areas.

  • To observe and abide by all safety rules and regulations taking appropriate consideration of
other hospital staff, patients and visitors.

  • To ensure work is carried out in a professional manner.
  • To be a responsible team member who uses initiative and is flexible to the needs of the
clients.

  • To undertake training to learn new generic skills in order to fulfil the requirements of the
department.

  • To understand working practices of the Estates Maintenance Department
  • To become familiar with the operation of plant and equipment throughout the Trust.
  • To carry out other duties not listed here which fall within the post holder's skill set.
