Acorn is currently recruiting for a Planning Engineer based at our client's site in Port Talbot.

Reporting to the Section Engineering Manager, the purpose of the role is to provide leadership and support to the department.

You will provide engineering expertise,as well as ensuring work can be produced at optimised levels in order to manage both the current and future demands of the department's internal and external customers.

A fundamental aspect of the role is to improve all maintenance productivity and quality by efficient planning, including coordination of spares and labour resources.

This role is vital to the department in meeting and achieving its annual plan in respect toStatutory Outages under PSSR, DSEAR and COMAH.

This includes ensuring the weekly and maintenance period planning and scheduling activities are implemented and supported to the agreed standard under the Maintenance Excellence Code of Practice and Guidelines.

Within the role, you will be responsible for the processing and managing of SAP work orders as directed and controlled by the Planning Process and the Quality Management System.

You will be responsible for improving the efficiency and capability of the assets,and must liaise with both members of the cross-functional team and contractors.

You will be key in ensuring the department works in partnership with its upstream and downstream partners and that the assets are managed to provide maximum efficiency
What are we looking for?
We are looking for an effective Planning Engineer with experience in fast-paced heavy industrial manufacturing activities.

We are looking for an individual with a demonstrable background of an engineering discipline, continuous improvement processes, sustainableoperational excellence, preventative maintenance techniques, planning and implementing maintenance stops, reacting to faults & breakdowns and dealing with contractors.

You must have a strong awareness of engineering practices. Successful applicants will be expected to work towards obtaining IOSH qualification and NVQ Level 4.

Applicants will possess the following:

  • Advanced computer skills experience of SAP PR4 and Microsoft Packages including Word, Excel and Project are preferable
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • The ability to use initiative to prioritise work and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • The ability to create a high level of trust with employees at all levels
  • Must be committed to achieving safety, environmental, and service targets
  • You must have a sound knowledge of health and safety requirements, such as CDM regulations, PBS/ATW systems, as well as QA Documentation
