As a consultant you will have the opportunity to deliver solutions that help our clients with their pathways to net zero.
About the role
You will develop and deliver solutions that help our clients to monitor and reduce energy use and carbon emissions. This will include strategic and site level support.
You will have the opportunity to lead tasks and will make a key contribution to successful project delivery. As part of an effective team, you will work alongside colleagues in various disciplines, team leaders and directors.
As part of the role HDR provides support for continued professional development and career progression. This helps us to maintain our position as a world leading sustainability team.
You will work on a range of exiting projects with high-profile clients.
We work in a wide range of sectors including tech/media/telecoms, datacentres, commercial/corporate real estate, finance, healthcare, education, hotels & leisure, industrial, transport and mixed-use.
Our services are varied but include:
- Net Zero Carbon strategies
- Energy and Resource efficiency assessments (including ESOS compliance)
- Sustainable design, construction, operation and refurbishment of buildings (including relevant rating systems)
- Development of Environmental & Energy Management Systems (ISO14001/ISO50001)
- Verification of Corporate Sustainability Reporting (including SECR)
- Regulatory compliance activity such as UK Emissions Trading System and Environmental Permitting

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree or master's level education in a relevant discipline (e.g., Engineering / Environmental / Energy / Sustainability / Scientific), OR equivalent experience
- Have a highlevel knowledge of (and interest in) sustainability principles and challenges
- To be able to work as part as a team and collaboratively and cooperatively
- An ability to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity
- The ability to research, collect, analyse, and process information following established guidance and protocols. This includes critical thinking and generation of ideas / opportunities.
- Competency in key business tools (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Browsers and Search Engines)
Desirable:
- A highlevel knowledge of relevant environmental legislation (particularly in the UK & Europe) and how to assess compliance.
- A highlevel knowledge of relevant sustainability tools or standards (e.g. GHG protocol, carbon emission factors, ISO14001 / other standards etc.)
- Appropriate professional membership based on your experience. For example with IEMA, Energy Institute, CIBSE or an equivalent. With a desire to work towards Chartered status.
- Relevant experience in a similar position. Previous experience in consultancy is not essential.
- Any other relevant industry accreditations (e.g BREEAM / WELL / ESOS).
- Driving license
