About this job:


The Head of Non-Life Reserving - Specialty will be responsible for overseeing the reserving function related to PartnerRe's Specialty business.

The Head of Non-Life Reserving - Specialty will collaborate with the Chief Non-Life Reserving Officer and Chief Actuarial and Risk Officer (CARO) in helping to set the direction for the reserving function, ensuring the tasks performed align with the overall group needs related to establishing actuarial central estimate (ACE) loss and LAE reserves, as well as all the internal and external reporting requirements related to those estimates.


About the role:


Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee a Europeanbased reserving team and lead the Deep Dive reserve reviews for the Company's Specialty portfolios working closely with underwriters, pricing actuaries and the claims teams to determine appropriate ACE reserves and contribute towards the established of the Management Best Estimate reserves (MBE).
  • Ensure that there is a regular flow of reserving information to and from key stakeholders, including Specialty Underwriting, Actuarial Pricing, Claims, Reinsurance Accounting and Finance, as well as Executive Management. Maintain emphasis on feedback loop with Underwriting and Pricing within and outside of the Deep Dives to ensure that they have the benefit of latest reserving information to utilize in forward looking underwriting and pricing decisions.
  • Help drive continual performance improvement within the reserving team to ensure it is continually challenged, motivated and engaged. Recruit and mentor team members to assume broader roles within the organization over time.
  • Provides sufficient assistance to the Finance teams responsible for internal and external reporting as it relates to the Specialty portfolios, contributing as much as necessary to the discussion of results.
  • Provide counsel to the heads of the Specialty business units in managing their portfolios, planning, operational reviews, setting financial targets and assessing the capital needs for the business.
  • Help maintain an environment and control system to ensure that ACE and MBE reserves are established in a consistent, timely and accurate manner.
  • Collaborate with pricing to integrate pricing data and perspectives into the reserving process and the profitability outlook.
  • Support the Chief Non-Life Reserving Officer in improving processes and enhancing effectiveness and efficiency and share knowledge to benefit the broader organization.

Qualifications:


Qualifications and Experience Required:


  • A university degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • Fellow or Associate of an internationally recognized actuarial society.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in progressively senior actuarial roles with a leading nonlife re/insurer. This individual may also have gained experience at an actuarial consulting firm.
  • Expert knowledge of a wide range of nonlife Specialty re/insurance products.
  • Demonstrated leadership in developing effective teams. This individual will have experience managing through others as well as coaching and inspiring to unlock potential and possibilities to not only encouraging their team to grow but to also help grow the business
  • Experience in dealing with executive level management and contributing to the broader direction of the business.
  • Experience developing and implementing reserving models and processes.
