Healthcare Assistant - Plasma

Job Summary


Our Plasma Collections team do incredible things, day in day out, and we are looking for a Healthcare Assistants to join our Plasma Collections Centres.

It will be your job to make sure our donors feel safe, special, and well cared for, and to create an experience that they will want to return to time and time again.


You'll get to contribute to improving patients' lives by working under the professional leadership of our Operational Nurse Team Leader.

You will have an opportunity to develop yours and your colleague's knowledge, skills and capabilities through continued observations and meaningful feedback to deliver the life-saving work.


Main duties of the job


In this role you will work as part of a collaborative team to deliver an exemplary donor experience while collecting plasma.

Making sure that our donor experience is at the heart of everything that we do, your day to day responsibilities will include:


  • Welcoming donors on site at the start of their donor journey develop and maintain rapport and positive relationship with all donors throughout the process, includes predonation checks
  • The collection of plasma at donation centres working in line with regulatory clinical requirements and operational performance standards
  • After training and assessment, performing venepunctures (inserting a needle in the donor's arm)
  • Observing the donor's wellbeing throughout the process, managing adverse events, raising any concerns through the appropriate escalation process, and promoting donor retention
  • Handling plasma product bags, needles and a range of equipment on a daily basis
  • Ensuring that the collected products safely meet the requirements of 'Good Manufacturing Practice' ready for onward distribution to our manufacturing site, following instruction on clinical and standard operational procedures
  • Actively participating in peer observation and feedback to support continuous development, continuous improvement, ensure donor safety and drive improved donor experience
  • Prepare the Plasmapheresis machines and related equipment for use in accordance with guidance, ensuring that they are safe and fit for purpose following the standard operating procedure

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of dealing with the public, putting the customer first
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive or confidential matters and an understanding of how this applies to the role
  • Experience of delivering a quality customer service

Qualifications and Training

  • Ability to follow written instructions, to develop a good underpinning knowledge relating to practical skills, for which you will receive training and ongoing assessment
  • Willing to undertake further skill development for self and for supporting the training and induction of new team members, where required
