Sanctuary Personnel, a leading recruitment company within the private and public sector has a role for a Business Unit Manager for the Environment & Leisure Department in Southwark.

This pay rate for this role is between £450 per day (ltd/umbrella) and has an initial 3-month contract.


Duties included:


  • To deliver excellent services to residents in line with the council's vision, values, resources, strategic and service priorities
  • To lead and manage the officers of the unit, providing strategic direction and professional and technical guidance
  • To be responsible for the strategic management / development and long term business planning of the business unit, division and department in line with council priorities, statutory and contractual obligations
  • To be responsible for the provision of expert advice at lead member briefings, Scrutiny Commissions, Cabinet and other decisionmaking bodies, steering groups and panels, offering high level "legal" advice to members, chief officers and departments as tothe law on matters relating to the work of the unit / service.
  • To have accountability for all financial matters within the postholder's sphere of responsibility (up to £6m/annum)

Requirements of the Business Unit Manager:

  • A relevant degree in an appropriate discipline or qualification or experience of an equivalent academic or professional standard
  • In depth knowledge of all aspects of the commissioning cycle, grant commissioning, contract specification, letting, monitoring and the associated processes and procedures of procurement Experience of managing, leading, developing, motivating and monitoringthe performance of teams, contractors and commissioned services to successfully deliver performance against targets within a large organisation and partnership working
  • An enhanced DBS certificate dated within the last 12 months is desirable but not essential
