Background


Birmingham International Academy (BIA) delivers International Foundation Pathways, Presessional English and Insessional Academic English programmes for international students studying at the University of Birmingham.

Foundation Year programmes are delivered at both the Edgbaston and Dubai Campuses.


BIA sits administratively within Academic Services but has a primary reporting line via the Dean to the Pro-Vice Chancellor International and plays a key role in the University's international ambitions.

The Academy's teaching is research-informed, and staff are encouraged to take part in relevant conferences and CPD training sessions.


Role Summary


A key priority of the role is developing and sustaining a cohesive and cooperative team environment across both campuses through: (a) expert advice to staff and students regarding International Foundation programming, (b) clear communications to staff and students and (c) providing guidance on programme management/coordination tasks and methods.


You will contribute to a range of education-related activities, including academic integrity, admissions tutoring and coordination of personal tutoring services.

You will be expected to demonstrate staff citizenship, developing and maintaining mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students, and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs.

Management and administration responsibilities include programme/student performance monitoring, progression and reporting.


Main Duties

  • Daytoday academic management of Foundation Programme delivery across the BIA (working with College Pathway Leads across disciplines to achieve consistency and efficiency of teaching);
  • Liaise with College Pathway Leads and BIA teaching fellows (Edgbaston and Dubai) on new module development opportunities. Support curriculum development and/or renewal. Where appropriate, leading and managing the Foundation team to implement new and/or revised curriculum. Preparing related reports/recommendations to the Dean BIA and the BIA Board;
  • Act as academic liaison with the university's recruitment partner to ensure critical processes are followed. Oversee the preparation of academic progress reports for key stakeholders.
  • Develop/coordinate/sustain an effective system of Personal Academic Tutoring in the Foundation Programme space;
