Full time - 35 hours per week - position available on a permanent basis.

21 HSC are proud to announce that we have been exclusively retained on behalf of Unity to recruit a Young Carers Coordinator.

Unity is a highly regarded charity and long-established charity that provides a range of services to support vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the West of Scotland.

In North Ayrshire, they have supported unpaid carers for more than 20 years and have been contracted by the local Health and Social Care Partnership to introduce a vastly enhanced service.

The new North Ayrshire Carers Gateway model will help more people, in more places and in more ways than ever before.

The Young Carers Coordinator will be instrumental in achieving that.

The purpose of the role is to ensure young carers living in North Ayrshire are proactively identified and can access a range of support services in their locality.

The Young Carers Coordinator manages a team of 3 Carer Support Officers split equally across the 9 North Ayrshire school clusters.

The Young Carers Coordinator ensures a consistency of approach by the young carers team and clear communication and information sharing between them.

They also establish and build partnerships at a regional level, with a particular focus on North Ayrshire Education Department, North Ayrshire Youth Services, and tertiary education establishments.

The Young Carers Coordinator will represent the Gateway at various forums and meetings and deputise for the Gateway Manager as required.

  • Responsible for the design and development of the young carer triage and casework management processes, ensuring they are operating efficiently and consistently at all times.

  • Responsible for increasing the visibility of the Carers Gateway through ongoing promotion of the service.
  • Responsible for devising and delivering a regular programme of activities for young carers, ensuring risk assessments are in place and consent is obtained.
  • Responsible for developing and delivering strategies to reach, engage and support young adult carers.
  • Set targets for team performance and manage these through continued professional development and Unity's 1:1 support framework.
