(2 years Fixed Term)

Are you an experienced business engagement professional with experience in employment and skills looking to take your next career step?


We're looking for a
Employment and Skills Lead to join our fabulous corporate affairs team, to work across Gatwick's business units and external strategic stakeholders to develop, trial and pilot the approaches and programmes required to deliver the Employment, Skills and Business Strategy, which underpins the benefits case of the Northern Runway Project.


What is the role?


As
Employment and Skills Lead you will be responsible for growing relationships with local education and skills providers and other strategic partners, collaborating across internal teams and key airport businesses (the Gatwick Family).

You will also work closely with the Business Engagement Lead, to maximise the value add to the local community.


What will you do?


Priority areas will be to support the Construction team in securing accreditation and delivering NSAfC requirements and a pilot in 2023.


To support successful delivery of partner recruitment through the development of an effective framework and plan across Gatwick Family businesses (priorities being Retail concessions and Ground Handlers).


Developing relationships and co-ordination of activity with employment brokers; education and skills providers; local authorities and other public and charitable sector stakeholders that have strategies for maximising value to communities arising from development.

Ensuring that job readiness programmes are established and connect with communities in a timely way.

Ensure that the employment brokerage agencies are achieving sufficient reach into communities not traditionally engaged in construction, to meet the Gatwick's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion objectives.


Do you have what we're looking for?

  • A practical understanding of national government policy and good practise in relation to promoting high quality employment and skills progression opportunities from entry
- to degree apprentice-level

  • Experience in bringing together regional and local stakeholders with a role in shaping and delivering employment and skills policy, to work together effectively to deliver significant, sustainable benefits for local residents across a wide range of demographics
  • Ability to engage at senior, strategic level, providing relevant and timely briefings and advice to Gatwick Airport's Executive/senior leaders and strategic/project governance.
  • Experience in NAfCS (National Academy for Construction Skills) accreditation and delivery as well as wider experience of successfully working with employers, contractors, employment brokers and skills providers to deliver employment and skills outcomes and ongoing progression opportunities for local residents across a range of sectors, but within the construction industry in particular.
  • Knowledge of how to contribute effectively to employment and skills strategy development, and how to identify and manage risk.
  • Experience of successfully developing, delivering, monitoring, evaluating and continuously improving employment and skills initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently, under own initiative with energy and pace
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly and persuasively with colleagues and stakeholders across the full range of seniority levels to create consensus, but also to question and probe
  • Ability to successfully motivate colleagues and stakeholders, marshal enthusiasm and support for initiatives, deliver collaborative working and bring people along with you
  • Results focused, through collaboration and driving action
