Description
The Neurodevelopmental Pathway CAMHS West Sussex

The NDP team is a new pathway designed to assess the local needs of young people presenting with ADHD and ASC symptoms.

This is an exciting time to be joining NDP and we are looking for a committed and enthusiastic clinician who is passionate about working with young people and their families.

Do you feel you have the skills and knowledge to triage referrals, make sound clinical decisions and are adept at obtaining additional information as part of the triage process, including around risk for children who are struggling with neuro-divergence?

Band 6 NDP Triage Mental Health Practitioner

What the role involves?

Within the NDP team we receive referrals direct into the service.

Following our pathway model, we decide at this stage if there is enough information to screen for assessment, which may then lead to a staged assessment, diagnosis and medication for those who experience ADHD.

For those young people with ASC the post will triage whether there is enough information to put forward for screening for assessment for ASC which may lead to diagnosis.

We do not offer treatment for people with ASC so at point of diagnosis we signpost those with ASC to local services which provide support and advice in this area.

The team is proud of the difference we make to the lives of families.

As a high demand service, we are also looking for someone who is organised and good at prioritising work-loads based on presenting needs and risk whilst focussing at all times on the quality of care we provide in a person-centred way.

As a service we know we can only provide high quality of care because of the efforts of our team, by creating an environment where colleagues are valued and by developing a strong team ethos.

We believe in investing in people, keeping true to the values and behaviours of Sussex Partnership and the NHS and looking after the wellbeing of all team members.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience of working with young people and families
  • Understanding of health care governance appropriate to the role and to work collaboratively with the team
  • An ability to maintain minimum clinical standards at all times
  • High quality record keeping including ensuring records are uptodate and entered within 24 hours
  • To work well within a team whilst having the confidence to work autonomously
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
What will we offer in return?

In return, we can offer you a flexible and accommodating working environment.

A robust comprehensive induction

The team is based within the stunning West Sussex countryside, though we deliver care from multiple sites.

Our main administrative base is in Horsham.

We care about and are committed to the quality of the care we provide. We also take care of our team members to support their own wellbeing.

We offer flexible working hours; training opportunities and all team members can involve themselves in projects outside of their day to day roles.

Beyond the professional advantages of this role, you will have the benefit of living and working in an attractive part of the country and working with a high performing and innovative team.

Both posts will initially be placed, supervised and managed within the NDP team triaging NDP referrals.

As part of a wider review of triage processes within CAMHS these posts will later move to sit within the generic single point of access (SPOA) team.

At this point the band 6 NDP Triage Mental Health Practitioner posts will be based, supervised and managed within the generic SPOA but still only have responsibility for triaging NDP referrals.

So, the content of the clinical work will not change but the structure in which the roles are delivered will.

Please be mindful of any implications (travel, work-life balance, change management) when considering your suitability for the role. We will be able to discuss this further in the interview stage

As band 6 NDP triage mental health practitioner you will work in a pair and with access to MDT colleagues with a diverse range of skills/knowledge to discuss what is available within the team, what is appropriate to offer and what additional information/evidence is required to make the onward pathway viable regarding neuro-divergence presentations.

Some of the work within triage will be responding to unsolicited clinical concerns or escalation of ADHD driven behaviours raised by other agencies or the families themselves in to the team.

This is often picked up by admin in the first instance.

Admin normally have to pass this query on to a clinician as a more robust, qualified and highly skilled management of expectation is required, dependent on the nature of the call.

Again, within your role, you will have access to the MDT to discuss clinical issues including medical advice with a doctor.

There will also e clear points and steps of escalation which will all be laid out as part of clear roust i
