Here at the Rowton hotel, We have a vacancy in our maintenance team for an assistant.

The hours are a rostered combination of early and late shifts (5 out of 7)

Salary will be reviewed after probationary period.


This would ideally suit someone with good all round experience, as the hotel has 250 en suite bedrooms, along with all of the usual maintenance needs of a very old gothic building.

To welcome and be receptive to individual customer requirements and ensure that these are satisfied in a friendly, helpful and efficient manner.

To adopt a "can do" attitude towards all aspects of customer service through a proactive and flexible approach to meeting customer needs.

To be aware of service/events in other areas of the hotel/outside the hotel, so that customer queries/information requests, can be handled in an informed and reassuring manner.

Assist in custodial work, keeping tools clean and tidy while working, the hotel will supply certain tools, which are to be locked away in the maintenance office at the end of the working day.

Keeping area tidy while working, before leaving the area remove rubbish, sweep, mop and vacuum.
Ensure all areas work is being conducted are safe, secure, and locked (when applicable) when the job is completed.
Schedule work order requests according to maintenance priorities.
Plumbing repairs to water and sewage systems, including replacing of water heaters, plumbing fixtures and clearing of blockages.
Carpentry repairs to structural framing. Light repairs of roofing, concrete and masonry.
Replacement of flooring, glass blinds and curtains.
Painting both interior and exterior.
Replacement and re-locking of lock assemblies.

Maintain accurate and currant records for maintenance performed in all hotel departments and other areas of the property, including periodic and non-routine activities.

Coordinate with contractors, including scheduling and monitoring work performed by them.
Follow safety inspections with written compliance.
Promptly prepare hotel rooms for sale.

Have reliable knowledge, supported by accurate maps, of all hotel utility routing and cut-offs, including water, gas, sewer, electrical, telephone and TV cable.

Maintain equipment manuals and parts list on a complete and current basis.
Ensure preventative maintenance is performed as scheduled in the hotel, and on all equipment. (Based on manufacturer's recommendations and operating manuals). Keep current inventory record of all equipment.
Participate in a standby emergency schedule for evening, weekend and holiday coverage.
Ensure maintenance storage and entrances are clean, locked and lighting is adequate.
Inform Department Managers of any work being carried out, in their specific Department.
The shift pattern for the Department includes working weekends on a rota basis.
Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to, especially in relation to Law, Health & Safety and Fire Safety.

Ensure that a smart and efficient image is projected at all times, and that rules of grooming, uniform and standards of personal hygiene are adhered to at all times.

Report any thefts, breakages or damage to property and/or equipment.
Build and maintain good staff morale within the hotel.
To attend all statutory training as requested and take responsibility for your own self-development. Remember - learning is a two way process.
Any other reasonable instructions as requested by Senior Management.
