About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a
Health & Safety Advisor to join our talented Regional Civils Team to provide support across the portfolio of HS2 Projects.

Preferably you will be based between Lichfield and Crewe. This role will see you building a positive safety culture in order to achieve our Zero Harm goal. You will support the broader HS&E agenda as required ensuring governance, compliance and legal obligations are met.


What you'll be doing

  • Undertake planned project inspections and tours.
  • Deliver prework site inspections to evaluate and address potential risks at planning stages.
  • Review, track and trend unplanned events and support project / site management in their completion of investigations.
  • Prepare written reports following all site visits, inspections, audits and investigations.
  • Ensure compliance to the BMS as well as testing the effectiveness of its various components in controlling risk and delivering continuous improvement.
  • Monitor emerging, new and revised legislation to assess its impact on the business.
  • Ensure that lessons learned from monitoring/incidents are communicated and adopted.
  • Gather evidence to support investigation process and its reports, including the interviewing witnesses and gathering of statements.
  • Monitor specific environmental aspects and work in conjunction with the HS&E Manager to develop the environmental procedures to ensure compliance with ISO 14001 certification.
  • Deliver site inductions, training and advisory sessions to personnel and contractors in conjunction with HR teams.
  • Share learning across projects and business streams.
  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm and the Zero Harm Events Calendar.
  • Promote the reporting of Close Calls throughout the business ensuring that actions are taken and feedback delivered.

Who we're looking for

  • NEBOSH Certificate / National Compliance & Risk Qualification equivalent
  • Competence in incident investigation
  • Demonstrable experience in a health and safety advisory role
  • Experience of delivery of HS&E training
  • Proven ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and implement risk free environment using best work practices and innovations
  • Experience in vertical structures and RC frame construction
  • Proven track record delivering H&S support to multiple project teams
