REPORTING TO:
Administration Co-ordinators, Student Services Manager, Principal


Roles:


Activities Leader:


To assist in enhancing the experiences of students at LSI Brighton by providing a range of social and cultural activities while ensuring students' health and safety.


Student Services Assistant:


to provide information and assistance to our students regarding aspects of their stay at the school, in Brighton, and the UK.


Remuneration:

£11.00 per hour. Holiday pay (12.07%) is added to this rate. When in lieu of actual holiday days it is paid quarterly or at the end of your contract.


Hours Of Work:


Activities leader role:


  • Hours and days of work are variable, depending on the number of students at the school. The activities week is based on up to 7 days and between 3 and 25 hours per week.
  • Most afternoon social activities are scheduled between 13.30 and 17.30 Monday to Friday.
  • Most evening activities are scheduled between 19.00 and 22.00.
  • Weekend duties may involve full day excursions, usually 08:00 18:00.
  • Airport courier work will be based around the arrival and departure times of flights but are not generally during antisocial hours

Student services role:

- staff may be asked to assist with student induction on Monday mornings and afternoons to supervise students and give introductory tours of the local area around the school and central Brighton.

  • Other shifts may be allocated the for student services part of the role, normally from on weekdays.

Duties:


Activities Leader:

Duties will consist mainly of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervising and actively participating in social activities as designated by the activities leader.
  • Animating and encouraging students to take part in the social programme.
  • Supervising and guiding students on activities and excursions.
  • Assisting, as necessary, with airport transfers.
  • Ensuring that health and safety procedures are observed at all times
  • Shared responsibility for the general welfare of young students including dealing with arrivals and departures, taking care of students' valuables, helping bored, lonely or (in conjunction with first aidqualified staff) sick students.
  • Raising and referring any specific Safeguarding concerns regarding students mental, physical or sexual health about students to the relevant staff, including the Designated Safeguarding Officers/Lead person in the school.
  • Monitoring and reporting any safeguarding concerns related to students emotional, physical and sexual wellbeing.
  • Attending relevant staff meetings.
  • Communicating routinely and in respect of problems to other staff in the schools.
  • Other duties as allocated by the Principal and SSM.

Student Services Assistant:


Induction:


  • To assist in the induction of new students by describing the SAA role, what can be provided, giving information about the social programme, and delivering orientation tours.

Information:


  • To provide information about local services, shops, events, and entertainments directly, via notices and the schools web, and social media presence.
  • To provide information to assist students with information to assist them in exploring the UK and Europe.
  • To regularly publish information on entertainments, restaurants, events, nightlife options for students.
  • Post relevant information on the school's Instagram and Facebook accounts.
  • To maintain notice boards and leaflet areas in the student lounge and around the school so they are up to date and tidy.
  • To build, maintain and extend a structured portfolio of information to ensure continuity between current and future staff.
  • To be aware of school procedures and be able to direct students to the right person to discuss issues with.
  • Preparation of Induction packs
  • Updating student information publications and notice boards

Assistance:


  • To assist students in making bookings with the school's excursion partners
  • To assist student with travel information and where necessary bookings
  • Liaising with students and their representatives regarding flight and arrival times
  • Organising taxi transfers for students from groups between the school and their hosts

Social programme:


  • Assisting in designing the school social programme
  • Promoting the programme to students by distributing information and direct verbal promotion
  • To make bookings and arrangements for the programme where required.

Location:


  • Based in the school office areas, it is expected that team members make themselves as accessible as possible by circulating around the school for example in the student lounge, reception and garden.

Recording and Reporting:


  • All activities should be logged and reported weekly to the SSM.
