Job description
Mid-Kent Mind work in the community to promote social inclusion for people who experience mental health problems.

We strive to tackle stigma and discrimination through a number of projects that promote a better understanding of mental health.


Purpose of the role


We run a wide range of services including, but not limited to, mental health training, wellbeing courses, one-to-one sessions, and social groups.

We cover both adult and youth services which focus on nurturing the mental health and wellbeing of our service users in a safe and supportive environment.

This role will be instrumental in facilitating a wide range of support across Maidstone, Ashford and Swale.

Whist we do have structured courses and community groups our Wellbeing coaches have the opportunity to "shape" their approach to better support the individual needs of our service users.


Key tasks

Delivery -

  • To lead on delivery of community groups, training, wellbeing courses and 1 to 1 programmes both online and facetoface.
  • Plan and prepare a range of engaging online and facetoface group sessions or courses.
  • Contribute to the design, development and evaluation of courses and workshops in response to need.
  • Conduct wellbeing assessments with service users.
  • Be responsible for your own administration, including keeping accurate records on our database.
  • Action any safeguarding needs of services users, following MKM Safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Refer or signpost clients to additional outside agencies as necessary.
  • Ability to collect information to create accurate and timely reports as required.
  • Be flexible in response to organisational needs.

Development, training and supervision -

  • Set and complete work objectives as agreed with the management team.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members, ensuring that relevant information is shared.
  • Attend supervision sessions, team meetings and appraisals.
  • Ensure training is kept up to date.

Quality-

  • Maintain professional and working boundaries with all service users and staff, as set out in our policies.
  • Work in accordance with the values, policies, practices, and procedures of Mid Kent Mind with particular emphasis on equality of opportunity, health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Perform all other duties as may reasonably be expected by your line manager/ management team.

Person specification

Qualifications
5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English.


Experience


Whilst the following experience is desirable, we will consider applicants who can demonstrate a skill set which allows them to meet the competencies below.


  • Supporting people with their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Planning and delivering engaging group work and courses.
  • Processing referrals in a timely manner.
  • Working as a team as well as independently.
  • Working in ways that are compliant with policy and procedure, for example, safeguarding, risk assessment, confidentiality and GDPR.
  • We actively encourage applicants with lived experience, and applicants from Black and minority, ethnic backgrounds.

Knowledge
Full training will be given however knowledge of the following would be desirable.

  • Understanding of issues that negatively impact, and strategies that positively impact, mental health.
  • Understanding of issues that impact on marginalised groups and the importance of working in ways that respect, celebrate and promote diversity.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of other local services and related support.

Skills and competencies

  • Excellent standard of writing, spelling and grammar for recording and reporting purposes.
  • Excellent IT literacy and problemsolving skills using Zoom/Word/Excel/ PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • High level of ability to carry out client assessments and keep accurate case notes.
  • High level of ability to monitor and record client outcomes using quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Ability to deal effectively and calmly with challenging situations that may arise from time to time.
  • Ability to identify personal development needs and attend training when required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Ability to work flexibly including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Ability to participate and contribute ideas at team meetings.
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle including insurance for business purposes.
