By providing helpful information, advice and guidance to individuals, managers & employers this post will play a key role in helping people with disabilities in finding, securing and keeping employment within NHS organisations in the South West London (SWL) sector.

Purpose of the Post


Main duties of the job:


  • Provide empathy and validation,
  • Offer signposting information
  • Provide tailored advice and guidance to enquirer. Where appropriate offer a call back with a key person (recruiting manager, HR, EDI,) in line with callback criteria.
  • Provide day to day support and assistance to staff and managers
  • Provide confidential advice to colleagues with a disability or long
- term medical condition

  • Adopt a 'business as usual' approach to managing disability and longterm conditions.
  • Identify and remove barriers in all areas of employment such as recruitment, workplace adjustments and staff development
  • Understand organisational performance and employee needs with respect to reasonable adjustments
  • Develop and maintaining a barrierfree employment experience for existing and future staff who identify as having a disability

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey.

In addition, we provide more specialist services, in particular renal and neonatal intensive care, to a wider area, covering parts of Sussex and Hampshire.

  • Experience of giving confidential advice and guidance to, and of facilitating support for disabled colleagues in the workplace
  • Demonstrable experience of MS Office and databases (specify*) to carry out helpline tasks
  • Experience of delivering advice and guidance to service users
  • Ability to create safe and inclusive environment for disabled staff and to share their experiences
  • Experience of writing reports

Desirable criteria:


  • Experience of working with staff from a diverse range of cultural and socio
- economic groups


Skills:


Essential criteria:


  • Evidence of working and liaising effectively with senior staff and external bodies relevant to disability issues
  • Ability to listen without judgement to the life experiences of colleagues experiencing poor health.
  • A commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team, as well as a proven ability to use own initiative and work independently
  • Ability to manage complex situations, from working with individual staff to working within a changing organisational setting
  • Ability to priorities, plan activities and work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines without daytoday supervision
  • Proven ability to keep thorough and accurate client case notes and ensure compliance with confidentiality policies, professional standards and Data Protection legislation
  • Ability to deal sensitively, and diplomatically, and maintain boundaries within a confidential setting
  • Ability to remain calm, adaptable and professional within a busy environment when dealing with challenging staff in difficult situations
  • Willingness to travel to different trusts for in person meetings
