Description

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team delivering data science and technology solutions across the NHS AI Lab, usually in partnership with NHS Trusts.


As part of the NHS AI Lab's skunkworks team your role will involve helping teams across the NHS organisations understand where AI Technologies can be utilized to help improve pathways, help develop and build proof of concepts using data science and engineering approaches to problems.

You will be responsible for project prioritising and scoping, together with overseeing project delivery.

You will contribute to stakeholder engagement at a senior level, represent the AI Lab publicly, and input into AI Lab reporting and governance processes.


The post holder will use their technical skills and expertise to help lead the provision of an efficient, effective and high quality professional and well-coordinated technical service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements ensuring alignment with the activity of the organisation.

Your role will require technical skills, self-initiative, and a troubleshooting approach that helps achieve the intended results.

The AI Lab's Skunkworks and Imaging Programmes are rapidly evolving, and your role is likely to evolve alongside these.

Please note that the reason for the fixed term of your contract is Short-term project due to funding.

Improving quality and outcomes

  • Undertake together with the Imaging Senior Programme Manager prioritising and scoping of projects within the Imaging Programme, including:
  • National COVID19 Chest Imaging Database (NCCID)
  • Model validation exercises
  • AI imaging platform development
  • Ensure that the technical resourcing and capabilities of the AI Lab's Skunkworks and Imaging team are commensurate with the work expected of the team
Enabling patient and public involvement

  • To act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in the policy development and decisionmaking of the NHS England.
  • To ensure all public and patient contact with the office is of the highest professional standard.
  • To embed patient and public involvement within the NHS England at all levels of decision making.
Using insight and evidence for improvement

  • Support the Skunkworks and Imaging technical team with conceiving the data science approach to problems and designing the associated software architecture
  • Be accountable for, oversee and ensure highquality project delivery together with the Imaging Senior Programme Manager and the Head of AI Skunkworks and Deployment
