Description

Research and Evaluation Summer Pathway Programme

About Us
ImpactEd is an award-winning social enterprise that exists to help evaluate, understand and improve impact in education.

We do this through a combination of hands-on partnership, training and consultancy, and our digital platform which makes monitoring and evaluation quicker, easier and more effective.

About the Summer Pathway Programme

The summer pathway programme is a chance to join the team at ImpactEd on a fixed-term basis, gaining first-hand exposure to the work of a rapidly growing social enterprise helping schools and education organisations to better understand and evaluate their impact.

Based in the Impact Partnerships team, the role will focus on our work with education organisations supporting schools and young people - charities like Jamie's Farmand Khulisa, education technology organisations like Oak National Academyand Texthelp, or universities such as LSEor SOAS.

Joining the team at one of our busiest times of the year, you'll work alongside a team of colleagues to collect quantitative and qualitative data, analyse it and write reports.

You will be supported by high-quality line management and a mentoring and learning and development offer to help you get the most out of the experience.

There are two main aims of the pathway programme:
An entrance into the sector.

This pathway will support in providing an entrance into the impact and evaluation sector for those with the relevant skills and an interest in the area.

This will be achieved through work-based tasks, supplemented by learning and development and mentoring opportunities.

Hands-on work experience.

You will be working directly within a fast-growing impact team, with a particular focus on supporting members across the team with data collection, analysis and reporting during our busy summer period.

This will give you the opportunity to put new skills and knowledge immediately into practice.

What to expect

The Research and Evaluation Summer Pathway Programme is split into two strands, with both strands complementing one another and building on the knowledge you will be developing throughout the summer.

Strand One:
Partnerships tasks

Key tasks will include:

  • Helping collect data from schools and partners
  • Providing technical support around managing data uploads on the ImpactEd platform
  • Carrying out data cleaning and analysis, primarily for quantitative data sets like survey and attainment data, but could also include some qualitative thematic data analysis
  • Writing up (parts of) the findings of impact reports

Due to us needing to complete data collection at the end of the academic year, your first month will be primarily focused on communications and liaising with schools and partners.

This would then be followed with tasks focused on analysis and reporting in the next two months.

Each team member leads on a variety of projects and will require support with some of them, meaning that you will work closely with several team members during your time with us, giving you the opportunity to get familiar with a range of partnerships and evaluation designs.

Strand Two:
Learning and Development

You will take part in a series of learning and development sessions facilitated by experts within the education and evaluation space, which will supplement the work you will be doing in Strand One.

These sessions include topics like:

  • Data cleaning
  • Quantitative analysis
  • Partner and sector context
  • Evaluation delivery

Additionally, when you start the pathway, you will be assigned an internal mentor from our senior management team that will meet with you on a regular basis to discuss topics of interest and support you in your career progression in a mentoring capacity.

They will write you a reference at the end of the pathway summarising its aims and the contributions you have made to the organisation.

About You
We are looking for some of the following attributes, though you might be more experienced in some areas than others:

  • Interest in the UK education system and our organisation's position within the sector
  • Interest in and experience with working with large quantitative data sets. This experience could be based on a university module you have successfully completed or previous work experience.
  • Theoretical or applied knowledge of impact evaluation
